    I suppose that once started, there was no way to stop the Chambers flintlock machine gun until all its ammunition had been fired.

    The idea of having bullets stacked in the barrel was revived some years back by the Australian company Metal Storm. However, their weapons were electronically fired and could be stopped after a single round. Potentially, it promised a flexible gun system with a phenomenal rate of fire. They went out of business a few years ago.
