    Default Timoleon repaint

As requested from a recent AAR , here is my repaint of the French 74 Timoleon. It still needs rigging and pennents adding, this is WIP for all my fleets

The model was a standard Commerse de Bordeaux Temeraire class 74
Hull was painted using GW Mechrite Red
Sails a mix of white and GW Administrum Grey, so not a pristine white.
The masts touched up using any manufacturers Lemon yellow and white added to match as closely as possible the original, well as much as my eyes say it is.

    Hope you like

    Nice!

I like this dark red colour on a 3rd rate.

Well painted and you coloured the the rudder blood red, too.

Thank you very much for the pictures, Chris!

Somehow the crimson red hull lets the ship look much more... massive, I like the look! In general, we need a lot more red ships, I thought myself about reapainting a frigate or a sloop, too.

This is going to start a whole new trend in reddish ships I'm sure of that.
A very neatly accomplished transformation if I may say so Chris.
I would be happy to have her grace my LOB any day of the week.
Have you kept her stats the same as the Bordeaux?

    Thanks Chris.
The next question is would you mind in the future, if I could get hold of another Bordeaux, if i copied your great feat.( or should that read Fleet?)

Just researching on Courageuse and came across this Chris.
    Any interest?

Born to a family of sailors, and younger brother of Jean-François-Timothée Trullet, Louis-Léonce Trullet joined the Navy as a cabin boy on Séduisant in 1768. He served as a sailor on a number of ships before rising to helmsman in 1775.

From July 1776, he served as a lieutenant on a merchantman and rose in rank until captaining ships by 1784.
In September 1793, Trullet was tasked by the French ambassador in Constantinople with ferrying despatches to France. Arriving at Fort de Brégançon, his ship was intercepted by the British, but he managed to repulse them and secure the documents. In recognition of his behaviour, he was promoted to captain in January 1794.
In 1797, Trullet commanded the Guillaume Tell and later the Conquérant, and in 1798, the Peuple Souverain and later the Timoléon.

On Timoléon, Trullet took part in the Battle of the Nile, at the rearmost position in the French line. Fighting against three British ships, he ran aground and set his ship on fire to prevent her capture.
From December 1795, Trullet commanded the Carrère, and later the Courageuse. Captured at the Action of 18 June 1799 and taken prisoner to England, Trullet was released on parole the next month.
In 1800, he took command of a frigate squadron in Italy.
From 1803, Trullet served ashore, until he retired in 1814.

Interesting, was not aware, but may just make a Captain card for Timoleon now.
If wish your own version Rob, fill your boots I can give you the Base card and I have a ship card, unfortunately I do not have the knowledge how to make the hull Red on this, but looking.

Same goes for anyone else making Timoleon, if you want the base card and ship card let me know

    Cheers Chris.
I can do a red card with a bit of time and help from Paint shop. May even be able to send it back to you later.

This is a most flattering repaint, and with the number of 74s I have that might be hard to differentiate between on the table for the untrained eye, a repaint like this will most probably lay in the future of my fleet too.

Congratulations on a very successful paintwork!

    Timoleon now rigged

    Ratlines are Langtons PE1
The rigging lines are nylon bristles from a cheap dustpan and brush set, the bristles removed straightened and then cut and glued using Gel superglue.
I know this is not fully rigged, but I felt if I did that you would not see the model from the rigging, so its a representation.

One line rear mast, two for center mast and one for foremast with lines running from bowsprit to the ship and four lines between the masts.
I used Rod Langtons book on ship painting and rigging as a guide here.

Hi Chris, Recently I discovered a brand of boats 1/700 scale. There are some accessories that can be very useful to Sail of Glory. The downside, price. But they seem quite robust and would have no problem with size. I bought the HMS Victory, I hope to receive this week, I will inform you about the quality of the ratlines.

    I hope it is helpful!

Thanks chaps glad you like, just need to get the pennents now, tried printing my own, but i did not like the results and could not stick the two sides together to save my life :(

Ill look at that site julian as the Langton ratlines will not fit the Ares three deckers, the ones I am using PE1 are for three deckers but fit Ares two deckers, so until we get the ones on the AA site I am a bit stuck.

I had the same problem with conversions I've done Sail of Glory. Now I have hopes for this brand that I discovered
Still, you've done a good work here.

It really makes me wish Ares had brought out packs to rig their models, but I doubt that ever was a possibility.
I am sure someone could make ratlines to quite a long length, so you could trim them to the right length from the bottom for any mast.

    Ah, well....

Richard Exactly, that's what I did, cut the base of the mast.

    Wonderful work, Chris.

The ships look much improved with all the rigging work. Sue is more than willing to paint, but she disliked doing the rigging on her Langton Constitution. I can easily talk her into doing repaints, but I think that is as far as our collection will get.

    Hi Dobbs,
The Red is Mercurite Red from GW, but any dark red would do.
I used a Commerce de Bordeaux SGN102b, the ship sides I used a 00 size paintbrush and covered all yellow on the hull, not forgetting the gunwales on the top deck. The rudder
I went over using a scarlett or bright red..
    Hope that helps

Very very pretty! I want to add on the ratlines etc on my ships as well, but I fear that with my hand shakes etc, that will be nigh impossible. As it is I can barely paint.

I like how you took the flag post off and made a French Tricolor to fly from the rope. Question, what did you use to make the pennant and flag?

I print them on ordinary paper and fold them double.
There are flags in the files section I think. I have collected them on the net and touched them up as I like them.

I've put two nails on a small plank and cut the heads of the nails to make the rope the flag is on. That makes the flags exchangeable.
And yes, I've made custom ship cards. I've put up cards for all ships that was in the Battle of the Nile.
