I always need to watch Sharpe's Rifles again.

Sweden was one of the most loyal allies to Britain during the Revolutionary and Napoleonic wars. When evil Russia cowardly changed sides and forced Sweden to declare war on England the trade became smuggling and the British warships that filled water in Swedish harbours did no such thing. A completely unbloody war only on paper.

I'll have to watch Sharpe's Rifles again, too. Luckily I got the collector's edition some years ago for half the normal price!

Honestly, I don't know much about the Swedish position in the Napoleonic Wars. It's difficult enough to follow all the small German states and Prussia...

Sweden probably tried the same as The Irish republic and the pre December 7th 1941 U.S. did in WW2. I am sure Britain appreciated whatever help it could get!

The Sweedish position. I found something historical material there may tell a little about it. I know it´s far away from the thread, but could not found anywhere in the forum to fit in. It´s from the famous battle " First battle of Copenhagen" :

On 25 July 1800, Frigate Freja (Denmark) and its convoy of six merchant ships were attacked by four British frigates. Despite fierce battle could Freja not win the game, and the consequence was that Denmark strongly pressured by internal political and economic forces accepted an offer from the Russian Czar paul 1 to enter into an armed neutrality pact consisting of Prussia, Sweeden, Russia and Denmark-Norway. it was the lesser of two evils. one would not risk losing Norway to Sweden. Russia's growing positive relations with France meant that England everything in the world would prevent such a federation, because its total surface forces to win the war for France, why put England a fleet of water me heading for Denmark, immediately they heard of Denmark's acceptance of the agreement.

    cheers...

    Firstly, welcome to the anchorage!

England was Sweden's biggest trade partner by far. Russia was the arch enemy and Sweden was at war with Russia less than a decade earlier in a stupid attempt to retake lost parts. The forced war with England was a little strange: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anglo-...10%E2%80%9312)

It's not entirely true as Denmark always was the true arch enemy. It's told that in the history of nations no two countries has fought more wars or had more years at war than Denmark and Sweden.

And the Swedish position is a conservative one, but out on a field in a late summers evening under the midnight sun.

Yhank you Richard. I will try to keep up with all of you experienced sailors in here
Now, Black Sail's work all fine and have been fine entertainment. Do anybody remember, think it was a musical, with Burt Lancaster: The Crimson Pirate (1952)

Some pretty hot sailing action in the most recent episode (S3 E4) of Black Sails... don't want to give any more away than that ;)

Season 3 overall has had a much greater focus on sailing scenes and combat than either of the prior seasons, it's just getting better and better in my view.

I have just watched the first two episodes of series one, and am impressed, and that is not just by the flesh on show either.
If it gets better, it must be good. i like the interplay between historical figures and the fictional ones.

Glad to be of service. And it's quite easy to find the episodes online, if you're not adverse to a bit of piracy with your piracy.

I salute you, good sir! I guess I feel I'm doing my part in spreading the word about the show... "free" advertising for them, eh?

Just completed viewing series one. What a Cliff hanger.
On the strength of that I am about to order series two.
Thanks for introducing me to this series. I did not think I was interested in Pirates.

Everybody has a little corner reserved for pirates in their hart. It's just that it is very small among those devoted to the service.

Season two is great, but has received some criticism due to its focus on character development and backstory, as opposed to combat & etc. But fear not - there's plenty of action in the last few episodes of the season, and even more awaits in Season 3, which for me has been the best so far (and I've liked them all quite a bit).
