Well all this chatter is certainly whetting my appetite to get a look at mine.
Still after this time another month is not going to hurt too much.
I await the first pictures with anticipation.

My apologies, Rob. I saw a picture earlier, so I didn't have Sue take any. Tomorrow, we'll do so and post them.

No need to apologize my dear boy. I was simply interested to see what the Victory looked like.

I have the honor of waiting two more weeks until my local vendor gets his shipment in along with a few more wave 1 ships I ordered from him, but I can wait!! Meanwhile, I can dream how my Constitution will be taking on some of those British Frigates sitting patiently in port right now!!

    Hmmm.

I probably shouldn't say, "Since I was busy with important matters, I had the cook take and post these pictures."

Seriously, though, Sue is much better than I am at this sort of thing.

Got mine. The cruciform pegs are a nice improvement! Except that the bottom peg on my Constitution snapped in half at the cruciform part, and now the ship won't sit in the base properly. :-(

Can you glue the peg back together, Amara? You can still 'stick' the ship to the base with Blu-tack ( a removable plasticene like substance sold by stationers to stick posters to walls).

    Hmmmm....

I decided not to get the Victory and Constitution - too expensive.

But I did order a Worldwide Lieutenant pack. Which included some wooden rulers that were unfortunately erroneous.

I got my replacements today. A mistake had been made though, it included the V & C as well.

I'm not paying $$$$ to send them back, so I'm trying to figure out how to pay for them. I used the Ares "contact me" form, we'll see what happens.

Curse this vicious streak of honesty! It's gotten me into more trouble in my life than you'd ever believe.

I was going to say, send them to me, I'll reimburse postage, my streak isn't as vicious as yours. Then it dawned on me that postage would cost more than the ships.

PS I wouldn't be surprised if Ares told you to keep them.

Well received mine in UK today.
So finally after waiting two years I had to cough up an extra £25 for 3 models :(
Took out my Victory, paint scratched on the hull, yellow showing through and one of the gun ports has a black paint line running through it into the yellow hull, easily touched up but annoying just the same

Yup, even more so with the scratches also, not bad and easily remedied, just niggley.
I suppose I can't complain over the VAT but the extra £8 handling fee is a real pain

Swedish customs are probably worse. We pay the 25% VAT not only on the item, but on the postage too, but then we have to pay again for postage from customs to me even though I payed for postage to my door from the start. All that and that handling fee, which actually is less, surprisingly.

I too have received a letter from Parcel Force asking for me to pay the Import VAT plus an £8 Clearance Fee before they will deliver a parcel from the U.S.A., which I am assuming is my HMS Victory and USS Constitution models.

Arrived home to find a letter from arcel Force - £25 please for your models, oh and an additional £12 if you want them this weekend. I decided to make the trip out to the Parcel Force depot to collect them, had a nice chat with the postie there, then home with box.

My first thoughts - nice models, would have been better if they'd sent everything I'd ordered (one Constitution missing), and no rulers. The models are nice, detail is good. I guess the extra detail promised at the time of the KS is in the finer diameters of the guns which look better than on previous models, otherwise the models themselves look on a par with earlier releases. Paint job on the masts seems even more minimalist that in earlier models though. Victory's bowsprit was loose, but sorted with a dab of glue.

Oh, and just realised that the value of the package is significantly over the value of the order - in fact its almost double - hence the £25 charge is rather higher than it should be. So all in all, bearing in mind the rather hefty delay in these arriving and then getting overcharged, I think I can safely say that the shine of these arriving has worn off rather quickly.

Probably no consolation to the Brits getting ripped off for VAT and handling, but Wayland Games delivered mine today.

The missing flag wasn't even in the box.
I've fixed five ships with broken masts without a word to Ares, but this makes me a little disappointed. I had the idea to save the Kickstarter ships as originals and buy another pair to paint and rig.

The details is probably that the guns on the quarterdeck actually match heir ports. That haven't been done on any Ares ship before.

I always thought that extra detail promise was odd. What did that really mean? Would they still fit in? Would they make the other models look bad?

Overall I'm pretty happy with what we got, but like you I didn't perceive the big step up that they sort of implied we would see. I haven't really compared the new and old ships side-by-side in any super-close way. I happened to have Victory and Hibernia on the table, and thought Victory did look a lot better overall. But on the other hand, the deck wash on the "specials" is a bit blotchy...

I have received an answer from Ares, that they will send me a new Victory. I'm guessing that It will be after everybody have theirs, so my whole Victory will wait for even longer.

But it's good of them to send a replacement.

My five wave 2 ships with broken masts I've fixed without talking to them. It's easier and I can do it when I paint the ships anyways.

So far, my only quibble is that the cruciform peg is a lot harder to remove from the base.

Now, the Wave 1 reprints, on the other hand... my second Zealous stiffed a lid for its base, then the replacement comes in with a broken foremast a la Wave 2. (Just enough extra cross-section for me to be able to superglue back together; surprisingly the three SGN108's in the same package, all in the original Breakage Prone boxes, all came in intact.

Sounds like somebody in Q.C. is slacking...

Does the size of the Constitution seem to be the same size as the Victory. Wasn't the Victory a much larger ship? I guess the scale are not the same.

  47. #147

Am I the only guy that likes the changes made to the Constitution, mostly the cut outs for the upper deck cannons and tight fit for the ship to base?

I'll give my opinion on the Victory whenever Ares decides to send the one I ordered with my Kickstarters.

Dominic, they're pretty close--we've always Built Bigger, in fact our first few 74's were similar length and beam to a British First Rate.

Length on Gundeck: Constitution 174' 10", Victory 184' (note: this does not include spars, beakhead, overhang at bow/stern beyond ends of gun deck)
    Beam: Constitution 43' 6", Victory 51' 7.5"
Burthen: Constitution 1576 tons BM, Victory 2162 53/94 tons BM

Just for comparison, an Elizabeth class British 74 (mid-stage Slade Common) is 168' 6" x 46' 10", 1612 88/94 tons BM; the first 74 commissioned into USN, Independence, was 190' 10" x 54' 7"--essentially a British First Rate with one less gun deck in size, and one shudders to think of how we might have one-upped in the Three Decker game.

The difference between Constitution and Victory would be about 3mm length on gundeck, about 2.5mm beam.

@csadn: QC = factory = China, not Italy.
