    Default Cussing etc.

A little bemused as usual. In another post on the Wings forum I said that I was having a (Delta India Charley Kilo)ens of a time finding something. The good old swear filter on the forums changed that to read ****ens of a time. I was just wondering if the filter does that for all languages or is it only the English one that has been so blessed.

I wonder what the descendants of the Charles ****ens family would make of their family name being obliterated from history.

You want to look at Richard( Dick) Turpin as well Gary, and if you live in Scunthorpe you have no chance! Strange to say some words that I would consider much worse in English get through the filter in the USA. I guess it is all a matter of usage. As you can see on this side of the site it seems to be fine.

The Business of the commander-in-chief is first to bring an enemy fleet to battle on the most advantageous terms to himself, (I mean that of laying his ships close on board the enemy, as expeditiously as possible); and secondly to continue them there until the business is decided.

Censorship filters are generally swiving stupid. An appropriate use of the Sardonic Sard will handily place a Mirkin on swears that you intend to get off.

I suspect it's a dialectic difference between the American and Commonwealth forks of our nominally 'shared language.'

You must remember that David comes fom the South West of England Gary. As DB says it must be a matter of dialect! The whole censorship buisness seems to be a bit of a pantomime to me but saves me having to use my blue pencil very often. Just as long as the Pantomime is not Dick Whittington, I'm OK.

Matthew 5:27 was translated “Gehered ge fordon acueden is to ðæm aldum ne gesynnge ðu [vel] ne serð ðu oðres mones wif’ - “You have heard that it was said to them of old, don’t sin, and don’t sard another man’s wife." Sard is used as a noun for "dick" in other contexts and indeed works exactly in that way, but can also be synonymous with plough or swive..

A Mirkin is a particular type of wig, one suited to being worn along with or parted by a beard splitter.

Basically all dick-jokes and smut. Archaic ones perhaps, but filthy all the same. The use of the obscure allows such smut to come-off without obvious suspicion. The culmination of the joke being multiple orgasms.

    Thanks for your elucidation David.
I hope that this discussion can now be laid to rest.
