This from Wiki explains it Chee.

Ratlines (pronounced "rattlins") are lengths of thin line tied between the shrouds of a sailing ship to form a ladder. Found on all square-rigged ships, whose crews must go aloft to stow the square sails, they also appear on larger fore-and-aft rigged vessels to aid in repairs aloft or conduct a lookout from above.
Lower courses in a ratline are often made of slats of wood (battens) for support where the distance between shrouds is greatest. These wooden boards are called rat-boards. In some instances holes in these slats guide and organise low-tension lines between the deck and the rig.

The Business of the commander-in-chief is first to bring an enemy fleet to battle on the most advantageous terms to himself, (I mean that of laying his ships close on board the enemy, as expeditiously as possible); and secondly to continue them there until the business is decided.

    Thank you Sir

    And to answer Capn Duff

To make the "haubans" so the ratlines ! I took out some material I used a few decades ago on the Heller rig of "La Sirène" at 1/200th. Obviously reducing the scale since here it is 1/1000th.
