Thread: What's on Your Workbench for November 2021

Default What's on Your Workbench for November 2021

I finally finished the second of Simon's Temeraire class 74s I had from Pete Lowe that I had been working on through October. And my 2nd attempt at cloth sails. I present Le Fougueux!

    Yet another masterpiece Vol.

What a beautiful way to start November.

I’ve seen it on Facebook and already been amazed, so I’ll just join the others in praise.

Thank you gentlemen, and thanks for the reputation points.
I am afraid I went a little too over the top with the sail billow. I will try to tone it down a bit in future, somewhere between this and the first one.

Now I am working on one of Henry's Porcupine class frigates, Pandora. This is a very brittle resin print and I have had a time with it, having to repair breaks just about every time I pick it up. As can be seen, I had to install rings for a place to tie off the foremast backstays (you can see the starboard side breakout). I will be gluing a line along the top railing on each side to allow tie-offs for the other two masts as the resin railing will break out at the slightest tension. I much prefer PLA prints for this work.

Since I have not built a small frigate like Pandora in this scale, I am going to have to figure out what size masts to build and the sails to fit.

Splendid work as usual Vol. Those eyes for attatching the rigging must be miniscule. The stern and bow chasers are just what I could do with for my games, as you will see when I post my next AAR.

Thank you Rob and yes they are the smallest brass eyes I could purchase. I agree, the bow and stern chasers are very nice. I can't fault this model for detail.

Yes Rob they come in handy for all sorts of projects: masts for my ships to spears for my ancients!

The Commodore (actually she's more of a Cruise Director), released me from duty later in the evening and I was able to get a bit more done on the masts for Pandora.

Now I just need to get the crosstrees on below the platforms, snip off the thread tails and the masts are done.

The masts are now complete and test fitted to the ship. While fitting, the riding bit stanchions and rail broke out in front of the foremast! Now I'll have to make a new one.

I have to admit that I'm tied up with workmen, booster jabs, dentist visits, health checks. and all those things which backlogged because of Covid and are now having to be dealt with in rapid succession. None of which give me time to settle down to a days model work.

Yep, Rob, we're kind of in the same boat. I'm playing with our big plastic boat. We're pushing south, but Mother Nature is being challenging. We have to get to warmer climes before I feel inspired to break out the gaming goodies.

My boat is not nearly so desirable as the one that you are in, even though it seems to have a rather disturbing list to Port. I will do a bit of damage control on that for you. Until you get into warmer climbs I would resort to a different sort of port. The kind which has a warming effect internally.
    Sail safe both of you.

Those are 6MM rule sets aren't they Jonas? I have painted a few 2MM Nappy formations for my 1/1200 ship games. I can imagine 6MM being even more difficult with the added detail.

Battletech is in 6mm but since it’s mostly big robots they are not very difficult, unless you make it so.

My WSS/GNW are 15mm. Those may be more difficult. You really believe you can paint the triple hatband in blue-silver-gold. In 6mm you don’t ever try anything like that.

Technically these are post workbench, but my coastal forces finally made it on the table. The German boats are from Warlord Games Cruel Seas line and the British MTBs and Hunt Class destroyer are 3d Prints.

Vol, sorry I missed the launching ceremony for Le Fougueux! It's a bit late but I'll drink to a proud and long lived service in the French Navy tomorrow.

She looks as lovely as the last one off the slips.

Pandora is not looking too shabby either, shame about the brittle structure problem you're having, that must be most frustrating.

I haven't been working on the ship for a few days, what with the holiday and family. I did get my printer working again though and test printed two feluccas successfully. I also purchased nine more files from Henry and one from Simon. Still waiting for Simon's new Bahama and Rayo. He says he should have them available in a few more days.

I got the Dutch 68 and have printed the 74 too. It's apparent there's a big difference in time of creation between them. 74 were his early work and the 68 is his latest. That 68 is beautiful and could probably be printed in 1:100 and still look good.

Have you a picture of the Dutch model you can show us please Jonas.
That is where I will be heading next.

The Business of the commander-in-chief is first to bring an enemy fleet to battle on the most advantageous terms to himself, (I mean that of laying his ships close on board the enemy, as expeditiously as possible); and secondly to continue them there until the business is decided.

The Dutch 68 is next for me as well. But there was an issue with missing or extraneous surfaces errors I was getting when trying to sliice the FDM file. Henry resolved it for me this morning. So it will be on the printer today.
