Default USS Constitution Museum Document Acquisition

The USS Constitution Museum has announced the acquisition of many documents from the early days of Old Ironsides service. Here is the announcement:

"Museum Acquires Outstanding Collection of Early U.S. Navy Papers

The Museum recently acquired at auction an astonishing collection of significant correspondence related to the first years of USS Constitution’s career under sail. The exceedingly rare collection, encompassing more than 150 individual documents, sheds light on the fledgling U.S. Navy’s participation in the nation’s first international conflict, the Quasi-War with France.

This acquisition is the largest the USS Constitution Museum has made in nearly a decade and makes an incredible birthday present for the Ship and Museum! We will publicly share collection documents via future email newsletters and social media posts. These papers are also being processed into our archival collection. Digitized copies and a full finding aid will eventually be available on the Museum’s website. "

The announcement contains a photo of a document acquired -- the signals between Old Ironsides and friendly British ships during the Quasi War with France -- really looking forward to seeing the full collection.

    Great news Bill.
Just when my own fledgling US Navy is beginning to take shape.
    Thanks for the heads up.
The Business of the commander-in-chief is first to bring an enemy fleet to battle on the most advantageous terms to himself, (I mean that of laying his ships close on board the enemy, as expeditiously as possible); and secondly to continue them there until the business is decided.
