I feel like I may have asked this before, but what is the largest game you've played in terms of the number of ships? What's typical for you?

My largest game has to be the trafalgar one put on by Captain Duff at Doncaster, but in the main or even in the North sea the size of game I play is on average about six ships a side or fewer.

The Business of the commander-in-chief is first to bring an enemy fleet to battle on the most advantageous terms to himself, (I mean that of laying his ships close on board the enemy, as expeditiously as possible); and secondly to continue them there until the business is decided.

Here's a link to the biggest game I ever played:

I think we had 9 players and 19 ships on the board, though 10 were merchantmen.

Those are some massive games! I play solo and am still doing the intro mission. I'm about to start the starter set campaign. Thus I play with 2 ships per side and still am learning the ropes.

Here is a shot I managed to take of Chris's Trafalgar Game.

My biggest is probably The Nile.
Usually I would say size depends on number of players and how experienced they are.
1 ship per new player and up to 4 ships per experienced player I would say. This makes a total 8 ships most common I would say for me.
