Default A Yacht Quiz (of sorts)

The day before Tropical Storm Isaias hit my area, this very large yacht passed my place heading north inland toward Albany. This morning it passed us again heading south to NYC harbor (and presumably the Atlantic). I guess he came this way to ride out the storm. The boat was well over 100 feet in length and had a uniformed professional crew. It flew what appeared to be the 1960 Bermuda Red Ensign from its stern. The name on the side was Gitana -- which I know is the name of a sailing racing fleet owned by the Rothschild family. Any ideas on the home port/owners of this one?

Not a clue Bill. Looks like this could be one for Dobbs to deliberate over.

The Business of the commander-in-chief is first to bring an enemy fleet to battle on the most advantageous terms to himself, (I mean that of laying his ships close on board the enemy, as expeditiously as possible); and secondly to continue them there until the business is decided.

THANKS !! so I was close -- it is 158 feet in length -- home port George Town, Cayman Islands. Came our way from Newport, Rhode Island. It is technically classified as a "Super Yacht" (it looked pretty super to me....) It has cabins for up to 12 guests and has a crew of 10 (see link below). Thanks Dobbs!

Marinetraffic is a great little app that lets you track and identify ships using their AIS (Automatic Identification System).

Suzanne and I first picked it up working as the night crew for a dredge's supply boat.

It would be a handy App for you, Bill.
