I am also alergic Rob. Although my reaction is not as severe unless I use copious amounts. Unfortunately I have found nothing as convenient or fast acting as the Cyanoacrylate glues. We are not alone, it appears to be quite common. Here are some folk's comments and the measures they take.

Thanks for all the advice on the glues chaps and thanks for pointing me to that article on others experiences with CA glues Vol.
The symptoms are spot on as described by them even to the few hours time delay before it hits.

Yes, for several years now we thought I was alergic to the cat, then the cat passed away and we thought it was moulds, the Christmas tree, dust, etc. It is worse in the winter and pretty much disappears in the summer. Well I spend a lot more time at the hobby bench in the winter and hardly any time in the summer, this one being an exception. By now my symptoms would normally be gone, but I have been spending a little bit of time everyday in the shipyard due to the pandemic and the unusual rainy weather. So we know it is the CA glue. I purchased a 3M Organic Vapor Respirator that works great, but I hate wearing it and doing so detracts from my enjoyment building the ships.

Guys, I didn't do the artwork. That's the Ares stern. All I did was put a touch of blue-silver in the windows.

I never knew that Ares had done a stern like that Vol. I must look at my models more closely in future.

Here is my endevour for the day.
Castle now completed with guns in place, a few camel thorn bushes clinging to the crags, a couple of Palm trees, and my Algerine flag flying overall.
Tomorrow the town will get a similar treatment.

Today, between gardening I have completed the Town and Port Sven.
They can now go off to the workshop for a good coating of matt varnish.
I will place them in situ tomorrow and post the final photos. Then it is on with my Langton ships for the harbour.

Port Sven, great name for a Moroccan port, I love it!
This is truly beautiful Rob! Now all you need is a population like Julian's Cuban town.

Very nice Ferrante! What is the xebec ship in the background? Not an Ares SOG ship surely? Perhaps a 3D ship?

The extra vegitation gives a very plesant softness to the rugged terrain Ferrante. Maybe I should have added more to my arid and barren landscape to match that in the backdrop. I will look into that.

Hello Vol . Thank you for your comments . That Xebec is from AliExpress , is not detailed one but it works as a model . I repainted it with red sails .

Yes Rob. Thank you . I was reviewing actual Alger with google maps and it changed my view of desert areas . Some Mediterranean low trees .

Rob, I just watched a YouTube video on terrain modeling and the builder recommended a product you might be aware of? No mention of an odor or allergic issues like super glues so maybe this will also work for you? In the US it's called Locktite, but in the UK it's "No More Nails". Here's a link on Amazon. Cheers.

    https://www.amazon.co.uk/s?k=no+more...l_539q07uiqo_p

Edit: He uses this extensively for putting down ground detail; grasses, trees, boulders, etc.

    Thanks Jim.
I have used No more Nails for joining my foamboards and also my polystyrene together but not on trees or shrubs. It may be something to turn to again. Ithink that very fine work may easily become obscured by the overspill when it squeezes uot at the edges, but I will give it a trial next time I go to B&Q.

Glad you said that Vol. I was a bit worried yesterday that it still looked like a Spanish Frigate. I think that cutting off the tumblehome and thinning the stern helped the illusion. TodaybI am going to wrestle with the guns again.

After several failures to produce small cannon involving superglue with a Fume proof mask on I tried some magnetic tape and steel wire for the barrels. The wire looked too large in diameter so I forgot that idea, and went back to sprue and my old friend the plastic sheet with plastic weld as the adhesive. This worked a treat. Here are the barrels glued down and all ready to cut out and fix on deck tomorrow.

Rob, in 1/1200 scale scratch building I use monofiliment fishing line painted black for cannon barrels. Cut in segments for cannon: 4lb test are 6 pdrs; 8lb test are 9 pdrs; 12lb test are 12 pdrs; 20lb test are 24 pdrs; 30lb test are 32 pdrs, etc. Easy to work with and PVA glue works well to bind them to the 110lb card carriages.

The real tricksy bit comes now. Getting the masts set up at the correct angle for the sails. I have cut one sail profile to help position the masts before silver soldering them.

Yesterday I finished off Soldering the masts, cleaned them up, and cut out the sails.
I then glued them into place on the masts.
Today i will cut the masts to final length and trial them on the ship before adding a few extra details to the sails and hull.

Today I got the sails all completed and afixed to the masts with the excess on the masts trimmed down to size. this evening the close is having a happy hour or two before the thunder storms break up the weather so no work for the rest of today.

The Business of the commander-in-chief is first to bring an enemy fleet to battle on the most advantageous terms to himself, (I mean that of laying his ships close on board the enemy, as expeditiously as possible); and secondly to continue them there until the business is decided.

Masts and sails in place for trial fitting.
Next cutting back the nest of long boats to reduce them downto one.
A sheet of glasspaper and a good rubbing on the underside should do the trick.

    Very good work, Rob.

I'm glad to see you holding the fort (or should I say shipyard) of ship building when I'm away.
I now have a weekly commute of 75 miles each way and a lot less time for Sails or conversions.
I will be back, but I don't know when.

I finished Gunner's third ship tonight, the Bonhomme Richard. On this one I left the deck alone except for plugging the old flag pole hole in the aft deck, and repainted the hull. For some reason Ares painted the hull black and gunwales bright red??? They do some weird stuff. Again the spanker and stay sails were billowed in opposite directions, weird! So scratch stay sails to match the spanker, old masts cut away and sails cleaned up. New masts attached to sails and fully rigged.

Well that is one formidable looking xebec Rob! Excellent mod! Did you say what you used for the frill ties across the top edge of the sails, or did I miss it?
