    Default Grace O'Malley Pirate Queen

My daughter has told me about her a number of times, but here is an interesting article on the 16th Century female pirate:

Thank you for that interesting article, Bill. I had not heard of Grace O'Malley before reading it.

Although I had heard the story in connection with some period reenactment which we were doing, this article has helped refresh my memory on quite a number of points, and fleshed out the details of her meeting with Queen Elizabeth.
Thank you for bringing this very interesting story up Bill.

The Business of the commander-in-chief is first to bring an enemy fleet to battle on the most advantageous terms to himself, (I mean that of laying his ships close on board the enemy, as expeditiously as possible); and secondly to continue them there until the business is decided.

There is a Broadway musical about her called "The Pirate Queen" (please see link), and Lena Headey (of Game of Thrones fame) is making a film about O'Malley.

I watched about ten minutes of the Musical but it is a bit too esoteric for me I'm afraid. Reminds me of Le Mis too much.

    However, the film sounds promising!

Yes -- the music, book, and lyrics are by the same team that brought you Le Mis.....my wife compares seeing Le Mis to being imprisoned -- and "the characters just won't stay dead, they keep coming back and singing at you"....

That would go witout saying Bill. She must have been taken with your modesty, and winsome boyish charm.

I too have watched about ten minutes of 'The Pirate Queen' musical and I see what you mean about it. It may be by the same composers as 'Les Mis' but it does not have the same edge to it.

    I concur fully Dave.
The only edge it has is in the sharpness of some of the singers!
