    Thanks Rob, I've never tried to cut mouse mat material and wondered if the knife method would sort of snag and stretch the material as you cut. I take your point about the sharp blade.

    I thought about slicing the foot of spare mat into 9" slices to add to the depth of the mat making it 5' x 4'9".

    I kept my offcutts for Captain Kiwi, because he does small dioramas, and it makes a good ground cover for the plinths when he has a dogfight going on above.
