    Summary: Not to be confused with Theodore Roosevelt's classic book, this one is not as in depth but does give a good overview of the war. It is loaded with pictures is an easy read. It is good to have as quick source of general information.

    I have not read this one, but (and this is probably my only negative remark about any book on the age of sail) Gardiner's book 'American Heavy Frigates' (an Osprey book to be fair) is full of poorly researched phrases and History Channel-esque generalizations that I've since shed away from anything with his name on it, though he may do a standup job on British ships and events.
