    Default Ahoy from Boston

Just joined the Anchorage today & I ask 'permission to come aboard sir.'

I have been a miniatures wargamer for many years but this is my first venture to sea.
Decades ago I played 'Wooden Ships & Iron Men' and SOG reminds me of an upgraded
version of this classic game I loved.

The starter set arrived today and I have four more vessels on order. This is all very new '
to me so I am sorting things out.
I have my playing surface, a blue exercise pad of two-foot by two foot interlocking pieces,
    enough to make a 4 x 8' board.
I'm using pink board to carve out the coastline & 3mm structures to populate the land.

I'm very much looking forward to the motivation this forum will provide and I hope I can
contribute to the Anchorage in a positive way.

Good evening from here at the Admiralty in London Tom.
Your credentials look like you are just what the Fleet is in need of at this time of peril.
Welcome to you and I am sure that the rest of your shipmates will also be along as soon as their watch ends or they sober up.
In the meantime, may you sail with a fair wind and a willing foe.

    Rob.

Good to have you as I have said Tom.
Enjoy tour browse through our Threads, and be sure to look at the files, and some of the old AARs, plus the "How to" section on the Home page.

    Here you go Tom.
This is what I make my terrain out of. It is the high density styrene that they put in mobile homes and caravans.

That is simply beautiful. Very inspiring. This is exactly what I want for my shoreline. I have the high density styrene and I've made a narrow cliff border that surrounds a 4' x 4' mat but nothing close to what you've created.
This is very motivating. I'm going to start to cut and carve this afternoon.

What scale are your structures and who makes them?

Love the ship in drydock BTW.

    Thanks for posting this.

    Welcome to the Anchorage Tom.

I recently moved out of Mass. to Maine. Are you going to Havoc (Shrewsbury) in April or Huzzah (Portland ME) in May? I just submitted 2 Wings of Glory games for Havoc. I will probably submit another two. I might be able to talk a friend into running a Sails game.

    Thank you Peter.

My sister is in central Maine, in Dixfield.

Due to some minor health issues I'm pretty much housebound ATM so any Cons are out for awhile.
    Maybe next year though.

The model buildings are from several manufacturers Tom and in several scales. I grade them from large on the seafront to small in the background as this helps to simulate the perspective.
Langton at http://www.rodlangton.com/index-2.html do very fine docks and harbour buildings among others. Quite OK for the middle foreground behind your ships alongside There ships are 1200 scale so slightly smaller than your Ares warships in the outer harbour.
In the background come the Brigade models.at http://www.brigademodels.co.uk/ and for those very special Forts and strong-point or the odd cathedral etc our very own Redcoat at Model J ships. http://modeljship.com/en/

I do like your cliffs Tom. They serve very well.
Last year I figured an easy way to photoshop out the joins to make the AARs pictures a bit better.
