    Default Xebec Frigates?

Just re-reading the Aubrey Series and realized (After the incident with the Cacafuego) that there are no official Xebecs in the line. I for one would love to field a squadron of those Lateen Rigged beauties. Anyone know if there are in the plans?

Greetings Mike, don't know if they are, but there is a nice 1,000" scale xebec on Shapeways I finished several years ago . . .

The problem is that it has two different sailplans. One for downwind, and one for upwind. Which to choose for the mini?

Firstly let me welcome you formally to the Anchorage Mike. 5 years at sea without touching land is a long time for any sailor.
If you don't mind a bit of painting the Shapeways models are a good option.
As I usually say may you always sail with a fair wind.

I saw that! I love Age of Sail games (Started with Wooden Ships a zillion years ago) and play several rule sets. Trying to build my SoG collection with official minis, but might have to break down and use my 3D Printer to do some custom stuff.

    Thanks for the reply!

LOL, probably Downwind. I always envision Xebecs slicing through the waves full of Corsairs and Black-hearted ruffians.

I have a nice looking one from GHQ -- another option if you don't want to print one out.

That is a smart ship Bill.
Methinks, that with the Naval novel I'm reading at present this may well be my next heading after I have finished with the Chilean Navy.

Perhaps we can compare notes on the build when you get to it.

Speaking of Xebec Frigates I knew I'd seen a couple done before. Check out Vols thread on his blog.

    This is magnificent Vol.
    Thanks for the link
I will certainly be turning my hand to a couple of these in the near future.
For those who have not seen Vol's superb model here is a spoiler.

Great stuff Vol. I started a Xebec frigate like yours, but it's literally buried somewhere on my workbench.

Thanks Jim. I have to confess the xebec frigate was not my idea. James White did the first one and it looked so good I had to have one. Rob Eubanks was running Waterloo Minis at the time. He sent me the Langton Xebec Frigate with standard lateen sail set, but then threw in the small frigate square sail set for nothing! He is such a good person. So James was first, then me. They're both awesome. And after seeing both I asked Rob to send me the same kit to do one as well. But, as I said, it's buried under piles of other projects on the workbench.
