    Default Be Dazzled!

I tried to post this on the Aerodrome just before the crash, but it has as many fans here and rather belongs here on the sea . . . Mrs Clipper found and bought this for my naval obsessed grandson age 5, I liked so much I had to order my own copy, see what you think! Very cool cover art!

    Very interesting Dave.
I never really got to grips with if that WWI Camo really worked or not.

That book looks really cool. Love the Art Deco cover art. And now to plug my own foray into 'dazzling' territory I'll share a kit bashed RMS Olympic that I did for a steampunkish game that came out from Catalyst Game Labs several years back. The game was called Leviathans and I ended up doing the Titanic, Olympic and Britannic. It's where I got my first experience making molds and casting some plastic. Fun!

Very cool!! Love the ships and the creativity. This book really addresses the purpose of the dazzle was not to camo the ships, but to confuse the viewer over what they were seeing, its size and its direction. YThe second bow was very effective against torpedo attacks. Very well done explanations and graphics.

In the early days of the U.S. involvement in WW II my Father's ship and another U.S. warship in a North Atlantic convoy exchanged fire with each other because the camouflage on my Father's ship in the fog looked like the conning tower of a surfaced submarine. Luckily no one was hurt on either ship before the mistake was discovered, but my Dad's ship took one through the smoke stack and had a life boat blown away.

That is a great photo!! You'd both fit right in at the local Steam Punk Convention here in Madison (TeslaCon).

Here is the steam chamber to power my Nerf gun. It clips to my utility belt.

A plastic salad container? If so, the painting is impeccable!

    Very close Dobbs.
    An Ice cream tub.
Also a toilet cistern float.most of the fittings are plastic radiator parts and pipes, with a washing machine hose for the main pipe. the dial was an old bedside alarm clock with a fake paper dial inserted for the pressure gauge.
Very lightweight and took the paint very well. The front and side plates are hardboard pot riveted onto the tub to strengthen it up and give some interesting levels to the outline.

I blame Clipper's elves for getting me into this this!

    Great stuff Rob.

I just got back from a reunion with folks I use to do Scottish dancing with, plus 1830s Rendezvous reenacting and general crazy stuff. Some of us still do the Steam Punk thing. One of the group brought an old photo album. So long ago, but was a fun time for sure.

And yes, I actually hand sewed that capote using artificial sinew.

And very nice it looks too, which I bet is more than could be said about your fingers after sewing it.
My musket Sergent and I still take our Capotes to any period event we do to wear around the campfire at night. They are by far the warmest garment we have.

My eyes are still recovering from trying to discern how many ships are in the dazzle/splinter camo photos!!
