I observed recently that although we had medals ascribed for Trivia quiz, And others such as Painting models, none had ever been issued. Now although i do not have the resources of Keith to run to vast prizes, I intend to get things underway at least as far as a medal for the victor is involved. I have one HMS Victory surplus to my requirements which will go to the victor of my first big quiz, but otherwise it will then be mainly up to members to come up with ideas. There have been murmurings from some quarters on the Wings site about the unfairness of time zones handicapping some members when a quiz is published. I, therefore, intend to slip quizzes and trivia in without prior notification. Those who read the posts and access the site most often will thus have an advantage.
To that end I posted this picture some weeks ago.

The first person to spot Clipper's unpainted Santissima Trinidad which I had slipped into an otherwise completed dockyard scene was Pedro (Glorioso XVIII) who will thus be the first person to be awarded a medal for Trivia on the Anchorage.

My congratulations go to him for winning this award.

I thought Volunteer would be a possible recipient when he pointed out ships are built the other way around, stern to the water. He is right.

Yes! I forgot to congratulate Dave on his medal for reputation.

I regard that as one of the most significant as they reflect that you have given something to the Community and we have responded by giving that reputation.

    Wear it with pride!

    But now, let's drink!

You may notice that there is of yet no medal for two years Sven, and he did not claim one last year, so I caught up with him for this year.
The year two medals are done, but I am just trying to find out how to get them onto the page, as this has previously been done for me.

Oh! Can I design medals for LinCon and GothCon?

I would have 3 for LinCon and 2 for GothCon. I think all of them have been posted here.

This is the answer from him:
I'm going to direct you to Bligh (Rob) for this question. He is more in tune with the Euro Cons situation.
I have a memory of having had this kind of discussion before. LinCon having 600 to 1200 visitors and GothCon having 1000 to 1600 each year, and having been held for 42 years.

    Right Jonas.
If the boss gives me carte blanche I say design a special Minor con medal for the Baltic countries alone. Then Sue will get it onto the server for you.

There is no denominator for Baltic countries, and GothCon is held at a coastal town not connected to the Baltic sea, but to the Atlantic ocean.

Instead I made a suggestion for a medal for Sweden.

If you can tell me approximately how many Anchorage members attend these Cons each year to put on a game Jonas, I will see if the numbers justify a medal. That is why I suggested including all the Baltic States rather than doing one for just Sweden.

If it was held in a different country another year, perhaps you could change the centre.

Well... LinCon is held in Linköping and GothCon in Gothenburg. They're kind of fixed in that way. I don't expect Doncaster would be held in another city or country?
Also they've been going for 34 and 42 years with one year interruption for LinCon. They're pretty stable.

Well... I don't think the forum has that many members in Sweden or the rest of the Baltic. There isn't really any exchange over the Baltic sea as there's a big language and cultural barrier. I haven't heard of a Russian, Pole or someone from Netherlands ever on a Swedish gaming convention not to mention playing SoG so it's not really a way of increasing the numbers. There's been several Norweegians, Brits and a few Danes and a Germans though. I even know of two Americans. So, more Americans than general Baltic states outside of the Nordic countries.

I know of two forum members who have visited the cons but only one that has played in my games.

Thank you for being so candid in you appraisal of the situation Jonas.
I am happy for you to support a Minor Con Medal for Sweden, but I would not consider it justified a Major Con Medal with so few Anchorage participants at your show.
You may wish to challenge this decision, and I would be more than happy to be overruled in this respect by Keith if you put your case to him directly.
If you are happy with my resolution, please get in touch with Susan (Ling) direct, and ask if she will put your medal onto the server for you.

The Business of the commander-in-chief is first to bring an enemy fleet to battle on the most advantageous terms to himself, (I mean that of laying his ships close on board the enemy, as expeditiously as possible); and secondly to continue them there until the business is decided.

Well... I don't want to have anything not earned.

I don't know what the difference is between minor and major con medal-wise. I would have guessed that a named medal would be a major con, as "Doncaster". I never expected there to be a medal for each LinCon and GothCon. So I guess I expected it to be a "minor con in Sweden" medal...

To be honest I'm not that sure what I expected, but thought it might be fun to design a medal based on the Swedish Order of the Sword, with the swords removed.

Perhaps that there could be those bronze, silver and gold stars on them for multiple events as I've held five events (four bigger battles and several drop in games with a couple of frigates) with probably about 50-60 players in all. I'm not sure how that works, Or if the medals were needed in bronze, silver and gold...

A Minor Con for Sweeden seems in order Jonas. Please feel free to go ahead with it. The actual medal design looks superb bye the way.
