Default The last fight of the Santísima Trinidad.

Tomorrow, October 21 marks the 212th anniversary of a battle that truncated Napoleon's plans. The British fought against the Franco-Spanish alliance. On the one hand, the british had 18000 men on 33 ships and the alliance about 27,000 men on 40 ships. Many lives were lost that day, among many others, Spain lost ten of the fifteen boats with which it fought, with a total of 1022 dead (among which Cosme de Churruca, hit by a cannon shot in one leg; Luis Perez del Camino Llarena, Dionisio Alcalá Galiano and Francisco Alcedo and Bustamante. Vice Admiral Federico Gravina and Napoli would die months later because of the wounds suffered in this battle), 1383 wounded and about 2500 prisoners, of the total of 12,000 Spaniards who intervened in the battle. France lost twelve of its eighteen ships, with 2218 dead, 1155 wounded and about 500 prisoners captured by the British. Only a third of the 15,000 French participants in the battle returned to France one day. The United Kingdom suffered 449 deaths in Trafalgar (among which, in addition to Nelson, were thirteen of its better officers) and 1241 wounded.

That same day would be the last battle of Santísima Trinidad, the largest warship built that time. Called El Escorial de los mares, It was guned with 140 guns of different caliber. She was on that occasion under the orders of the squadron leader Baltasar Hidalgo de Cisneros, and with Francisco Javier de Uriarte and Borja like Captain of Flag. After a hard fight was captured by the English in very bad conditions, with more than 200 dead and 100 wounded. The British set out to save it and take it to the English port of Gibraltar, being towed by frigates HMS Naiad and HMS Phoebe. However, it would finally sink on 24 October about 25 or 28 miles south of Cadiz.

For all this, my small tribute to all these brave soldiers who found a fateful destination and the glory that day.

NOTE: IN THE PHOTOS APPEARS A CONFRONTATION BETWEEN SANTÍSIMA TRINIDAD AND HMS VICTORY. THIS COMBAT WAS NOT REAL, THEY NEVER FIGHT BETWEEN THEM. IT IS ONLY FOR THE EXPOSURE OF BOATS.

    Thanks for seeing it!

    Best regards,
    Julián

    Superb work as usual Julián.
Thank you for your tribute to this epic battle and the many men who lost their lives or were wounded in the struggle between three such powerful nations, who are now thankfully friends.
    Rob.
The Business of the commander-in-chief is first to bring an enemy fleet to battle on the most advantageous terms to himself, (I mean that of laying his ships close on board the enemy, as expeditiously as possible); and secondly to continue them there until the business is decided.

to Trafalgar day and in memory the action that took place.

Cracking models as usual, to see both these ships in action against each other would have been a sight indeed

Absolutely fantastic work and a great tribute, Julian! I would love to see the Santisima Trinidad released as a special pack for Sails of Glory (sooner rather than later).

That I am sure would be museum quality and utterly stunning like all the work of your hand that I have seen.

The crew on deck is really extraordinary. So vivid.
