Back in '92 early in my years working at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution I ended a leg of a research cruise in Sydney Australia. I was at the time quite frustrated with the supervisor I had and was about to leave the Institution, possibly moving to Tasmania. At the end of the cruise a lab manager flew to Sydney to help pack up all of his sea-going equipment. Before leaving for this cruise (12 weeks prior to landing in Sydney) I had inquired about a position in this other lab. I ended up having a job interview in Sydney in The Lord Nelson pub. I ended up staying at WHOI and worked there another 26+ years.
I wish I could have stayed at The Lord Nelson. My lunch and 2-3 pints in the pub were memorable.
