Default The Inglorious 17th of April

My son and I played an enjoyable action this afternoon using his starter set. We used the advanced rules, as is our preference.

The game was well balanced, though the French frigate was lost first, having finally been boarded by crew of Defence. Below, HMS Defence, centre, engages with both broadsides a French Frigate and third rate (right). Soon after the French frigate was lost.

The British frigate, HMS Terpischore, was later lost in a collision with HMS Defence.

The game was very enjoyable and certainly challenging. Unfortunately the other photos were far from ideal.

KdZ, our son is almost 30. It seems many years ago he started wargaming.

I play with my son, he is seven. I can't keep my daughters interest for long enough though, she is five. I'd say give it a go now!

As an aside I've ended up purchasing a couple of SOG models using a gift voucher provided by my son. Having a son who provides models and acts as an opponent is rather nice. Of course I'm tempted to provide some additional SOG models for him to support his starter set. He however plays Bolt Action or X-Wing most often.

Get her started now, let her draw chits for you and help her pick moves against an AI. I mdid that with my son (7) and we play quite a bit now.

Huh, looks like I already said that... I must be losing my mind.

My 4 year old daughter is always very upset when Daddy and his friends begin setting up a game just as she is going to bed. So in some measure of compensation she now has her own ship and we play a cut down game which involves her drawing movement cards and Daddy moving the ship around the coffee table.

Good for you, David! Nothing like starting them young. Perhaps you could also use one of your own ships and make it a race.
