Hopefully as soon as possible. But looking at the release of special ship packs, no sooner as autumn.

I hope so Kamil, the scarcity of ships is soon going to affect the game, in UK at least, if my experience at shows is anything to go by.
For myself I enjoy the game enough to wait, but it has been a couple of years since we had new ships.

In Poland, availability is inadequate. At my regional supplier to buy are just less interesting units. On eBay you can see it too (without overpaying). So, hopefully as quickly as possible

    Hurrah! That ship looks beautifle!

Ships are usually available online arent they? If all else fails, surely we can buy them directly?

Hi Hugh, the last three shows we attended in March, not a single trader had any ships.
Amazon have them for sale, but if you look at these a lot are from the States.
Ebay have some still on sail, but prices are variable, I have seen IGUK still have some ships but not many so supplies are dwindleing, not seen a starter set for nearly a year on sale at a show and only a few on line.
All not lost yet but we need a new infusion to keep it going, Victory and Constitution helped but even they are getting less

Thanks for the photos. I was hoping for more news and some better close ups, but I'll take what I can get at this point. I'm very anxious to see the Spanish First Rates.

Ironically this news comes one year past receipt of HMS Victory and USS Constitution at the US warehouse and almost three years after the conclusion of the successful Kickstarter campaign.

As for SoG ship availability, here in the US finding ships at the local game or hobby store is nigh impossible. We have to go to online retailers to get most everything.

    Wave Three:
    --3x2 Spanish First Rate
    --3x2 Spanish 74-gun Third Rate
    --3x2 French 64-gun Third Rate
    --3x2 British 50-gun Fourth Rate

I'll share more of the Inside Baseball when Ares formally announces the SKU's and names, but this block is SGN109 through SGN112.

Is a 50 gun basically a super frigate?

In this case it's a "cruiser"--a two-and-a-half-decker not big enough for the Line of Battle, but having a second full gun-deck precludes it from being a true frigate. Example, a ship like HMS Leander.

There will not be any Santissima since she's not of the los meregildos or Santa Ana-class. She is a one of a kind and would only work as a special.

(Diamondback: It would have been a given sticky to keep upcoming releases easy to find.)

As I have understood it, Diamondback has specifically made facts about historical ships and ship-classes and copies and variations of those available to Ares so they have the data available when making their choices of what ships to make. I know he has made suggestions of what ships to produce that sometimes are followed and sometimes not. He's done a lot of work for the game and our community and he's not in their employ.

I want both specials and more general ships but I'll buy one or two of specials but more of a ship class that was widely used like the Téméraire.

The stats are available here in the forum somewhere and it's just a repaint of the Téméraire so you can make one yourself out of a Commerce de Bordeaux.

I agree but there is something awe inspiring when a first blows six frigates out of the water. I like to push things to see how far against the odds I can win.

IF Ares ultimate goal is to have all of the major ships from the Battle of Trafalgar represented in their line up then you most certainly will have to include the Santisima Trinidad. Whether that's going to be a one of kind release like HMS Victory of a loose interpretation of a Spanish First Rate remains to be seen.

I definitely want to see the ST and I'm sure I'm not alone in that. I've already kit bashed a French First Rate to fill that gap and I'm sure I could manage doing the same with a Spanish First Rate once they're available? After all the ST didn't start out as a 4 deck ship, it was modified from a 3 decker (the opposite of a razee if there is such a thing?).

I agree, the game was a test of the points system, not our attempt to make a balanced game - I too would have given the frigates a bit more. Points systems are inherently subject to abuse as they cannot balance every situation, and so much of a battle is down to luck and good play!

    It was a useful game!

    I've always found double the ships for each rate you go down. 1 1st vs 2 3rd. 1 3rd vs 2 5th. 1st vs 4 5th or 1st vs 1 3rd and 2 5th etc.

Jim, my understanding is ST would have to be a Special, and we've discussed it as such.

Bonhomme Richard was enough of a b**ch to do, even with close relatives... and as it is, all of them but BHR herself will be "kitbasher dreams" because you'll have to cut down the bulwarks, reduce the length of the quarterdeck and splice a quarterdeck-height extension into the mizzenmast. A job which I shall gladly sub-contract... :)

    As for Trafalgar -
    We really need:
    --SP Montanes 80
    --SP Santissima Trinidad 136
--assorted British and French brigs, cutters, schooners etc.
Those sculpts, and we have bare-minimum "representational" coverage.

I personally would be more comfortable if we added:
--One sculpt for British Second Rates
--At least one sculpt for British Large 74s/80s
--a new sculpt for the Spanish Rayos, preferably tooled as both 2-deck and 3-deck versions

And my own "minimum preference" would further add:
--a second Second Rate, one sculpt each "early" and "late"
--a British Middling 74, allocating the sculpts into the Slade/older forms on SGN104, Henslow's designs and contemporaries on either Large or Middling and the captured Courageux and her descendants the other
--a Spanish Ildefonso 74 (the existing sculpt is an "early" 74, this would be a "late")
--a second British 64 sculpt (one is coming in Wave 4, but we have a split between the French-derived Ardents like Agamemnon or a "traditional British" and I'd like a sculpt for each)

And then a metric sh*tload of reprints all around... by my count we have 24 reprints on existing sculpts plus 42 ships on new sculpts to complete the OrBat.

    Thanks for the response, DB.

Yes, I hope at some point Ares will be able to do the ST special, but I do wonder if there's enough 'economic' incentive for them to do so? SoG probably isn't a big money maker for them as it is very much a niche game. So unless they see profit I don't see the ST happening. As we've discussed I still think a Kickstarter project for a couple of 'special' ships might be the way to go?

I like your Trafalgar summation. I've taken a break from modeling, but most, if not all, of the ships you mention are ones I've picked up from Langton's with the intent to bring them to the table sometime? I would like to do the same with SoG sculpts too, eventually.

This Spanish 1st rate looks a litte bit shorter then the French Ocean class.

But wouldn't that be correct? Either from someone here or elsewhere I'm sure I've read that the Ocean class ships were actually larger (longer) than even the Santisima Trinidad?

Yes, Santissima Trinidad was in overall length even shorter (about 8m difference!) than the 100-gun HMS Victory, so I think Ares' miniature is quite correct.
