Default What is the significance of your post page Avatar?

Having at long last put up an Avatar on my post page got me to wondering why other members chose thiers.
My reason is that I'm simply showing off my modeling skills. It is a shot of a Nile Gun Boat that I scratch built for a demo game at Reading some 35 years ago. Sudan campaign 1898 in 15mm. Having placed it I was disappointed that the detail could not be seen.
If however you would like to see more then go to my Album " Nile Gun Boat" for more photos. The model was built using a sketch that I found in a library book and I have never been able to find any other reference to her. 'Her' being HMS Sultan,(HMGB Sultan possibly/) her hull was made in 11 sections so she could be dis-assembled and transported overland. She carried 2 x 12 pdrs and 2 maxims. I never had to use the funnel (sticking out of the water) as she was never sunk while under my command.

Our 1966 Columbia 31 named Grace. Sailing and fixing sailboats is what my wife and I do most of the time. I stuff gaming in the cracks. Right now, 12 of my SoG fleet has spent the last four months sailing to the Florida Keys and back aboard Grace. We spend the days sailing our big boat and the occasional evening pretending to sail little boats (and blowing each other up).

The U.S.S. Constitution is one of my favorite ships, if not the favorite. I admire Isaac Hull, one of her captains.

These two other avatars that I use on the Aerodrome, BGG, and elsewhere are of Ripacandida and the crest of her flag, my family's hometown in southern Italy:

Hi Neil, its near the Oldgate bridge along the river Wansbeck just outside Morpeth.

Not too much to it really, just a few plaques giving info on him and some (alleged) oaks he planted on his few visits to his home in Morpeth.

Jay Elliot described Grace Hopper as appearing to be "'all Navy', but when you reach inside, you find a 'Pirate' dying to be released".

I hoisted the Skull & Bones both to warn of my congenital problem with authority, and since I'm a WWII Studies major in honor of Tommy Blackburn's Fighting Seventeen and their F4U Corsairs, the original USN Jolly Rogers.

VF-17 - I'm shure we get one "Jolly Roger" with the next WGS series.

...and maybe a CV-17 miniature to reinforce USS Constitution.

CV-17 was USS Bunker Hill, CVG-17 was... rather more complicated, given how the USN dissolved and reformed airgroups and squadrons after every cruise.

For example, there was another Marine Fighter Squadron 214 before Boyington's Black Sheep that is largely forgotten, the "Swashbucklers"--they were so thoroughly wiped out in their last battle that they were dissolved, with guys on leave in Australia coming back and having no idea where their unit had gone and BUPERS (pronounced like "Bloopers" and known for creating many of same) not knowing where they were supposed to be. I met one of those men at a Museum of Flight event, and when he told his story and expressed uncertainty why he'd been asked to be there I told him, "Marine, you may not have been one of the famous Boyington's Black Sheep, but you were still part of a Marine Fighter Squadron 214--so your story is still part of their history, and DOUBLY important in ensuring that the Swashbucklers who you fought with have their place in history remembered too." I'm no diplomat, but even I know the importance of letting a veteran know that their sacrifices and those of the people they served with are remembered...
