AAR. Orpheus vs Dryade.
A matter of honour.
The French Frigate Dryade captained by Denis Charles St. Denis sights the British Frigate HMS Orpheus captained by Roderick Marmion Kyte.
Both ships close.
Turning upwind they exchange broadsides. Orpheus' crew are hard hit.
Another exchange a long range is inconclusive.
Kyte brings Orpheus about raking Dryads stern and damaging the sails.
Another long range shot whittles down the crew still further.
Return fire from the Orpheus does no harm to the Dryade.
Kyte Luffs and delivers a Broadside from his remaining guns. To which Dryade makes a feeble reply, having been hard hit herself.
Dryade makes off pursued by Orpheus.
Closing for one last endeavour both ships use their forrard batteries to some account.
Both ships carry on making feeble exchanges until they are both too crippled to continue the struggle.
Finally both ships were both hulks floating with the tide.
