The Business of the commander-in-chief is first to bring an enemy fleet to battle on the most advantageous terms to himself, (I mean that of laying his ships close on board the enemy, as expeditiously as possible); and secondly to continue them there until the business is decided.

Leveche (Lebeche) (Llebeig or Garbí in Catalan; Libeccio in Italian) is the Spanish name for a warm southwest wind in parts of oastal Mediterranean Spain, either a foehn wind or a hot southerly wind in advance of a low pressure area moving from the Sahara Desert. Called by other names in other parts of the Mediterranean area.

The levant (Catalan: Llevant, Italian: Levante, Maltese: Lvant, Greek: Λεβάντες, Spanish: Levante) is an easterly wind that blows in the western Mediterranean Sea and southern France, an example of mountain-gap wind. In Roussillon it is called "llevant" and in Corsica "levante". In the western Mediterranean, particularly when the wind blows through the Strait of Gibraltar, it is called the Viento de Levante or the Levanter. It is also known as the Solano.

From Wantsum Brewery Ltd., St Nicholas At Wade, Kent comes Preussen Pilsner.

The Preussen was a German steel-hulled, five-masted, ship-rigged sailing ship built in 1902 for the F. Laeisz shipping company and named after the German state and kingdom of Prussia. It was the world's only ship of this class with five masts carrying six square sails on each mast.

Until the 2000 launch of Royal Clipper, a sail cruise liner, she was the only five-masted full-rigged ship ever built.

Today the Wantsum Brewery's Black Pig - a smooth dark Russian porter. The 'Black Pig' named is not the ship belonging to a famous cartoon pirate but it is a nickname for the Spanish Armada, whose wreckage was washed up on the coast near Deal after they were sunk by the English fleet and weather.

Part of the reason for the success of Operation Overlord was Operation Fortitude - all the tricks played to convince the Germans that the landing would be in the Pas de Calais. Wantsum Brewery produce a best bitter called Fortitude.

Something a sailor would usually rather not meet - Transatlantic Fog, but this one is a hazy IPA.

The Tempest is a line of sour and barrel-aged beers from Fat Bottom Brewing of Nashville, Tennessee. Each beer is inspired by a history making woman. One named 'The Admiral' is inspired by U.S. Navy Admiral "Amazing Grace" Hopper the computer pioneer.
