From Wantsum Brewery Ltd., St Nicholas At Wade, Kent comes Preussen Pilsner.

The Preussen was a German steel-hulled, five-masted, ship-rigged sailing ship built in 1902 for the F. Laeisz shipping company and named after the German state and kingdom of Prussia. It was the world's only ship of this class with five masts carrying six square sails on each mast.

Until the 2000 launch of Royal Clipper, a sail cruise liner, she was the only five-masted full-rigged ship ever built.

The Business of the commander-in-chief is first to bring an enemy fleet to battle on the most advantageous terms to himself, (I mean that of laying his ships close on board the enemy, as expeditiously as possible); and secondly to continue them there until the business is decided.

Also from the Wantsum Brewery comes Montgomery, an American Hopped IPA named after the S.S. Richard Montgomery, which sank off Sheerness during WW2 whilst full of explosives and the Coastguard monitor the wreck even now.

Today the Wantsum Brewery's Black Pig - a smooth dark Russian porter. The 'Black Pig' named is not the ship belonging to a famous cartoon pirate but it is a nickname for the Spanish Armada, whose wreckage was washed up on the coast near Deal after they were sunk by the English fleet and weather.

Part of the reason for the success of Operation Overlord was Operation Fortitude - all the tricks played to convince the Germans that the landing would be in the Pas de Calais. Wantsum Brewery produce a best bitter called Fortitude.

The Tempest is a line of sour and barrel-aged beers from Fat Bottom Brewing of Nashville, Tennessee. Each beer is inspired by a history making woman. One named 'The Admiral' is inspired by U.S. Navy Admiral "Amazing Grace" Hopper the computer pioneer.

Both my girls came up with the same thoughtful gift idea for dear old dad. Nautical themed decanters with glasses. Fortunately they are enough differuent that they compliment rather than duplicate. I set them up in my hobby room.

Amity Island is a fictional island located off the coast of New England, and is the main setting of the Jaws franchise. The island is known for its clean air, beautiful white sand beaches, and many of its local fishermen. The island is also infamous for its series of horrifying and fatal shark attacks.

In 2016 the Gower Brewery in Swansea, South Wales brewed Janet 1916 to commemorate the Port Eynon Lifeboat disaster .

On New Year’s Day 1916 the Port Eynon lifeboat, Janet, launched at 11.45am to the aid of the SS Dunvegan which was in difficulties in Oxwich Bay. The storm force conditions were described as the worst in living memory. On completion of the service, the Janet attempted to return to Port Eynon but huge waves capsized her twice and three crew were lost, Coxswain William (Billy) Gibbs, second coxswain William Eynon and George Harry.

With their oars and mast gone, the then survivors drifted through the night until making shore in Mumbles at daybreak, after more than twenty hours at sea in atrocious conditions.

A memorial statue of a lifeboat man was placed outside St Cattwg’s Church in Port Eynon, as a tribute to the brave three. It remains standing there 100 years on, its gaze forever searching seaward.

The Business of the commander-in-chief is first to bring an enemy fleet to battle on the most advantageous terms to himself, (I mean that of laying his ships close on board the enemy, as expeditiously as possible); and secondly to continue them there until the business is decided.

Cousin Jack Cornish Amber Pale Ale was brewed by St Austell Brewery, Cornwall to raise money for the Royal National Lifeboat Institution. Five pence would be donated to the R.N.L.I. for each pint sold. The man pictured is rising Rugby Union star Jack Nowell, who became St Austell Brewery’s Charitable trust ambassador. Jack's dad is a trawlerman in Penlee, Cornwall, who has always had close links with the local lifeboat crew, so Jack grew up with the charity.
