    Default Lord of the Sea

I hope no-one minds a bit of own-trumpet blowing but, after 4 years of development, testing and other frustrations I have just published "Lord of the Sea", my medieval naval rules. They are actually three sets i one, a fleet level set, a tactical level set and a set of campaign rules. The battle rules are aimed at fast play, the campaign rules as well with the intention to allow players to fight out battles in an hour or so, and to run a full campaign in a day or less. I'm quite pleased with the way they turned out. They definitely fill a niche

If anyone is interested they are available from Wargame Vault for a very spritely $5

I love the naturalistic and the period pictures, but I am not that much into the period.

I do not doubt they are good rules though. It is a good aim for a rules set you have.

It is my experience that if it is a fast set of rules it leaves more room for fun and imagination.

How true. I'm curently fighting out some ECW battles in 15mm using the recent "One Hour Wargames" rules - not much to them but the games are a lot of fun!

Good luck with the rules and may they become the medieval naval rules of choice!

Hats off to you David, I will be picking up a copy. It wasn't to long ago I was reading about Cogs and some of the battles. It really caught my interest.

It must be very satisfying to see your finished work!

Now.... About those Junk and Turtle boat rules...

Yes, they are pretty much there. They follow a similar approach to LotS. It wouldn't take much to finish them off. All it needs is a decent set of miniatures to use with them.....

I'm working on some scenarios for LotS at the moment, looking at La Rochelle, Harfleur and les Espagnols Sur Mer at the moment, and I have some interesting background material on pirate and "irregular" actions on the East Coast and in the Scottish islands which could be fun - the Yarmouth "Fish Wars" in particular! They'll go on WV as free giveaways. Its very difficult finding reliable information (especially charts) of many of these actions. Medieval chroniclers had NO IDEA of the information demands of wargamers!

Right now there's a few thousand people on Gotland dressed in medieval clothes for a week and about a hundred dressed as pirates that keep the memories alive. (The pirates mostly dress like Jack Sparrow and drink a lot to celebrate pirates from 1398.)

I just picked it up at WV, had a quick read-through and now I have to find some appropriate models. I'm looking forward to playing it.
