Thread: My Scratch Built 80 gun French SOL Tonnant

Default My Scratch Built 80 gun French SOL Tonnant

After my last endeavor to scratch build the 50 gun Leopard I wanted to try another ship to see if I could improve the process at all. I chose the 80 gun French built Tonnant. I actually sized her a little large so she is almost 1/1000 scale. Her gun deck is 2-1/8" long. At 194' 6" she would actually be 1-15/16" for 1/1200 scale or 2-5/16" for 1/1000. The full build can be found on my blog site at volsminiatures.blogspot.com

Wow, great work. You even put the buntlines on and it really looks great. I love the "creases" in the corners of the sails. What thickness of balsa are you using to build up the hull?

Beautiful, Vol!! And it's something I can honestly say I will never attempt! I only dabble while the Master's create works of art.

Julian, this is a new sub-forum of the Chippy Shop that's totally devoted to modeling and repaints.

I am making new sub-forums, and moving threads over to them. This should help members more easily find items of interest. As the number of threads increases, this will become more important.

Kenneth, I used 1/16"sheet for the decks. If you go to the blog site I have explained most everything there.

Thank you all for the comments and rep points. They are appreciated

Just spotted this scratch build Vol.
It is very impressive on such a small scale.
I would not even try such a build myself.
    Super work.
