    Default Shore Leave

    Hi Folks,

I am ashore for a few days helping out parents. My Dad is having surgery this week for an aneurysm. Everything looks good at this point regarding the surgery and recovery. He is quite active for an 85-year old - still works full time, is highly active in scouts, the VFW, and church. Basically, he is never home. But he still is in his mid-80s, so as you can imagine, I am a bit distracted.

Neither my in-laws nor my Dad have internet; somehow they managed to live full lives without it. I will try to check in daily to keep up on admin work, but I cannot promise it. So if you need anything, please know it might be a day or two before I can attend to it.

Until I am back aboard, I wish you all a very pleasant week,
    Eric

Eric, I hope all goes well with the surgery and recovery. My Mom had surgery for an Aortic Aneurysm when she was in her 70s. She's doing well and will soon turn 88.

    Hi my Friends,

Thank you very much for your wishes, thoughts, and prayers.

We are at the hospital, and my Dad looks great. He is eating, talking, laughing, etc. The surgery yesterday went very well, and he should be released later today. Sue and I will stay until tomorrow, returning next week for a few days to help him out. The surgeon thinks my Dad will be able to return to work a week from Monday, so all looks promising.

I truly appreciate being a part of this community.

    yours,
    Eric

    Hi Folks,

I am afraid I will be on shore leave again. My Dad needs an additional surgery on Thursday, so I will be sporadic, at best, the remainder of the week.

May you have a very pleasant week,

In all seriousness though I hope your father feels well soon. Try to relax and enjoy your shore leave the best you can. We'll maintain the ship while you're gone.

    Thank you, my Friends.

My Dad was ready to engage life more fully this week. Yesterday's news was a bit of a blow to him. We're hoping that this round will be less invasive with quicker recuperation.

    Greetings Shipmates,

My Dad's second surgery went very well. He is feeling fine, other than being extremely tired. By week's end, he should be getting back to his normal routine.

I have a lot of work to catch up on today, but will be back here starting tomorrow. Please let me know if anything needs attention. It will be good to be back sailing these waters with all of you.

Thank you for all your thoughts and prayers. It truly means a lot.

    Hi Eric & Sue,
You may have to buy your Dad some diving-boots. The ones with lead in them. He will wish to run before he can walk. You will have to play role reversal for a short time, you being his parent for a bit. This is O.K. and only for a week or two. Good luck to you all. Watch out for your own health too. You are no good to your Dad if you become ill.

Doesn't have to be a Nun. When I was in Junior school, one of our teachers used a wooden ruler edge ways on across the back of our legs just where the knee joint is. I can still remember how much that hurt 60 years later.
