    Default famous age of sails coastal fortresses/batteries in the age of sail

    For using the coastal fortress/batteries pack what were some famous historical ones ? I can't find much info on castle aboukir (near the battle of the nile) it was on the coast was it a coastal fortress by any chance?

    Probably the most famous costal fortifications are located at Cadiz, Spain. Nelson had to deal with them during the blockade of Cadiz in 1797, and didn't fare too well. The battle of Navarino Bay in 1827 was the last battle to be fought with only sailing ships. The shore batteries were used extensively in that battle. The island of Malta has a lot of fortifications from this era. Hope this helps.

    Don't forget the battle of Quebec in 1690.

    Off period, but in my opinion utterly fascinating are the solent forts of the 1860s. Spitbank and her three sisters are a true marvel of the threat of invasion from a french Nappy, albeit the 3rd. Just where youd want to live if rich and famous.
