Brilliant! Thanks for sharing! These are amazing.

Also how do you model your flags? I've seen a lot of people with really nicely done flags, and I have no idea even where to start!

    Hi Eric,
    to model the need flags:
    paper
    white glue
    scissors
depending on the size of the flag, varnish.

The first thing is to draw the basic shapes of the flag, to give an orientation where you have to paint. It is always better to have some help to face the blank paper !!!
The flag must be double-sided, to fold it in half.

When you already have made the flag, trim, and will apply white glue. In this step you have to add the thread to hang or mast.

Flag let it dry. Now have any available rigid flag and a bit ugly. What You Have to Do Now with tweezers (modeling or cosmetic) go waving the flag. At first it costs a bit but when you practice you will have good results.

Now, depending on the size of the flag, you'll have to varnish. This is necessary because otherwise the paint relaxes the paper and the folds are lost. If the flag is small it does not lack varnish (for example I do not varnish flags of 1/2000 and 1/1000 scale)

Now you paint the flag. You give highlights and shadows and you're done.

I hope this advice will serve.....

    Greetings,
    Julián.

Another example for your professional work. Thanks for sharing it.

... I think I should spent more time in my ships... and have a little look on your examples

Great flags Julian. Never thought of varnish or lacquer to hold the folds.

Julián, as always, beautiful work. Yes, several folks here are hoping for Russians (soon Flying Colors expansion will be released - yeah).

Thank you for the flag tutorial.

Yep, GMT finally took our money for the Blue Cross, White Ensign game. Hope they ship before Christmas.

I wonder what their next expansion will be? I need to get Flying Colors to the table sometime soon; so many games to play, but so little time.

I understand that the Flying Colors standalone game Serpents of The Seas covers a lot of the AWI, War of 1812 and lakes actions, and accommodates much smaller vessels than the original game.
I'd be curious to learn more about how people adapt this boardgame system to play with minis. You'd need a hexgridded mat, for starters, right?

You can use inches instead of hexes and 60 degree angles for starboard and port turns.

For me, GMT's Blue Cross, White Ensign getting the Russians and Turks into the fray is the icing on the cake, and will keep me happy for a long time. Can't wait to use SGN ships with their rules. Time to stock up on dark GREEN paint, and can use the HMS Victory for some Russian knock offs.

I underlined green knowing it would get a rise out of the visually impaired. It's been a while since we crossed swords over this.
    Nice talking to you again.
    Take it easy pard.
