    Default TeslaCon 2014

Spending the weekend on a "Journey to the Center of the Earth". Believe it or not I hope to be playing a naval game later today. Someone is running a Leviathan's ('steampunk' aerial battleships) event later this evening. Most of the attendees will be trying to avoid these convention crashers. Not sure how we'll escape, but the trip so far has been fun. Cheers!

They are made so people can move them similar to muppets/puppets. I'll try to get some additional photos up later. They are pretty amazing in person.

Where was this con and was it a Sci-Fi theme?

By the name I would have thought it was a gathering of electric car enthusiasts!

It's held in Madison, Wisconsin. This was the fifth year. Created and organized by Eric Larson (now a teacher at MATC, but also worked at LucasArts years ago), each year has a 'theme' that relates to some aspect of Steampunk (most folks agree that Steampunk is a genre of SF and Fantasy). The convention tries to immerse attendees in the experience of said theme. This years was "Journey to the Center of the Earth". Previous years included, "20,000 Leagues Beneath the Aether" and "A Trip to the Moon".

Next year is going to be "The Wild Weird West/Night Circus".

Unfortunately, I never got into the room and they had very odd hours (definitely some complaints about that btw). From the description and talking to folks who were there it was most likely the game from Catalyst Game Labs, "Leviathans". I played that game quite a bit before the company got into production problems. They keep promising a revival and new national ships (Germans and Italians were in the works), but I'm not holding my breath.

I did repaints and kit bashes for these ships, which are 1/1200 scale. One of my favorites was the French "Paris" Class Battleship:

    Thanks for sharing, Jim.

Two years ago, Leviathans was a pretty big presence at Origins. This past year, not as much.

We need to look into this con next year. Many fine dining experiences are to be had in Madison.
