    Default Nelson's Commands

Just had a random thought... if we assume that Horatio Nelson is going to be the Manfred von Richthofen of Sails of Glory, what sculpts do we need to cover his career, both his direct commands and his later flagships?

So far I've been able to identify...
    Dates Class/Sculpt Ship
    1778-79 unk 12-gun brig-sloop HMS Badger (ex-US Defence)
1779 unk ex-French privateer frigate HMS Hinchingbrooke (ex-French Astree)
1780 Roebuck 44 two-decker HMS Janus (note, never took command due to medical issues)
    1781-83 uncertain ex-French merch-flute frigate HMS Albemarle (ex-French Menagere)
    1784 - 1787 Nov Mermaid 28 post-ship HMS Boreas
1787 Nov - 1793 Jan ashore, Reserve status no ship
    1793 Jan - 1796 Oct Ardent 64 HMS Agamemnon
    1796 Oct - 1797 Canada 74 HMS Captain
    1796 Dec ex-French 1782 Minerve 36-40 HMS Minerve
    1797 Jan-Feb Canada 74 HMS Captain
    1797 Feb-Mar Mod Albion 74 HMS Irresistible
    1797 May-Aug SGN104 Culloden 74 HMS Theseus
    1797 Dec - 1798 Aug SGN104 Edgar 74 SGN001D2 HMS Vanguard
    1799-1801 Foudroyant 80 HMS Foudroyant
1801 Mar Duke 98 HMS St. George
    1801 Mar-Apr SGN104 Edgar 74 HMS Elephant
    1803 May-Jul SGN202 1765 Victory 100 SGN202 HMS Victory
    1805 Oct SGN202 1765 Victory 100 SGN202 HMS Victory

Would any of these ships work as a 'two pack' which has been discussed in another thread? I don't think there's going to be a counterpart to "The Baron" in SoG, but we do have the Redoutable.

I dunno, not having sufficient information re his opponents... this was just the start of me figuring "work out a list of key people and engagements and the ships associated therewith, and build out from there."

There are enough Nelsonophiles out there that a limited-edition Kickstarter box-set with all the ships he commanded might get some cross-marketing... thought about the same thing with Aubrey-Maturin and Hornblower, but the problem there was very few real ships in either career.

I believe most of Aubrey's ships were actual ships or based on actual ships placed in a fictional setting. Here are his ships. Click on each ship for details.

Bobby, some were--there were a lot patterned after real ships but with different names, and a lot of composites like Sophie. Bellona was the Real McCoy, though, for one.

If anyone has anything to help plug the holes in Nelson's career, I'd appreciate the help.

    Hey DB,

Are you familiar with this book: http://www.amazon.com/Nelsons-Ships-...BFWXM2FHBCJGGT

The ToC could be useful as is.

Eric, that book sounds EXACTLY like what I need--just the TOC alone would do the job, as once I have a name and date I can get the class/"sculpt" and dimensional data from BWAS 1714-1792 or Sail & Steam Navy List, or mark a target for others to follow up in 1793-1817.

    Great, DB.

I ordered a book on Nelson and the battle of the Nile. It should arrive next week, so if you need anything from that one, let me know.
