Default Song playlist ideas for SOG.

I like to have some thematic music in the background during my games. What tunes do people here recommend? I would like to stick to iTunes available songs. I have the Master and Commander soundtrack, Victory at Sea, and plenty of classical tunes.

I've always pictured this song from 1971 as being set during the Napoleonic Wars.

Pirates of the Carribean is a bit of a given and if you like sea shanties I've been singing the praises of the UK singing group Fisherman's Friends elsewhere in the forum. On the classical front there is the Flying Dutchman overture (of course), and if you are in a more lyrical mood you might consider Ronald Binge's Sailing By which is used to introduce the shipping forecast here in the UK.

Thanks for the visual rendition of The Last Farewell Bob. That did put me in a melancholy mood. I almost forgot what a beautiful 20 year old feels like.
You young guys enjoy it while you can, they're not the same as they get older.
Funny, she said the same thing about me.

Check Amazon to see what they have available to download as well! I got a few CDs years ago with period music (ala Master & Commander) on them but don't have them to hand at the moment, but some of the tunes are now available as free downloads I believe!

Check out Flogging Molly, specifically "What Do You Do With a Drunken Sailor?"

Having just finished playing Assassin's Creed: Black Flag you might want to check out their soundtrack? http://www.amazon.com/Assassins-Cree.../dp/B00FXB6DAC
The game also includes 35 sea shanties that someone has compiled here on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bx5uegVP-78

Actually I just remembered some of the best music from the game was the 'tavern music'. Here are a few more videos and music from the game:

I also suggest reading the books kind of a cross between Treasure Island, Perils of Pauline, Robinson Crusoe, Master and Commander and Horatio Hornblower. A lot to chew on a lot to enjoy!

Have to check out the music from the Hornblower series. That could fit in.
