    Default L'Inconstante

The SOG ship pack SGN 101B has the naval pairing of Hermoine 1779/L'Inconstante 1786

My research cannot find a ship matching the second French frigate, there is one for 1790 though, can anyone enlighten me? Thanks

    see

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of..._sail_frigates

both have 1790 builds, keel laid 1789

Date glitch, going by class it's meant to be 1790 Inconstante--only 32 of the Concorde-Charmante-Magicienne round that fits.

Yeah, Andrea picked several brains between myself and others, and the consensus we came up with was that Charmante-class was close enough for a "stretch" from Concorde. (Charmante designer Jean-Denis Chevillard was Concorde designer Henri Chevillard's brother and they both worked out of Rochefort yard, so it is quite conceivable that they might have had some influence on one another's designs.

Classes designed to the same 1770's Marine Ministry spec:
    1777 Nymphe (PA Lamothe)
    1777 Sibylle (Sane)
    1777 Concorde (H Chevillard)
    1777 Charmante (JD Chevillard)
    1777 Fortunee one-off (Forfait)
    1777 Iphigenie (Guignace)
    1778 Magicienne (JMB Coulomb)
    1779 Ceres (Bombelle)
    1779 Galathee (Haran)
    1779 Capriceuse (Segondat-Duvernet)
    1780 Venus (Sane)

The previous generation of 12-pounder 32's...
    1765 Infidele (Ginoux)
    1765 Boudeuse one-off (Raffeau)
    1766 Dedaigneuse (Guignace)
    1766 Engageante one-off (Estienne)
    1767 Atalante one-off (J Coulomb--=JMB Coulomb?)
    1768 Zephyr one-off (Ollivier)

And the last of the 12-pounder 32's, which I'm not sure how they relate...
    1785 Félicité (Forfait)
    1786 Proselyte one-off (Ducrest)
    1788 Aglae one-off (Duhamel)
    1791 Semillante (Penetreau)
    1793 Charente Inferieure (Haran)

Was assembling all this for a new thread, thought it might be helpful here too. (My plan is, I'm going to trawl NMM for drawings and ask you all to look 'em over and see what you think fits as possible stretches--I'm already grouping known relatives together like the St. Albans 64's as "Baby Bellonas" and the UK Ledas with their French Hebe ancestors.)

Well I hope they also do the later frigates, there were many out and about after Trafalgar and those in the Indian Ocean were particularly problematic for Britain.
