    Default Wooden Attitude Indicator

Just wondering... Are folks gluing the two pieces of the AA Wooden Attitude Indicator together or just assembling the two pieces each time they play?

Mine didn't hold together properly, so I had to glue it.

I assembled them, and have them in the Starter Set spaces for now. Once I have a storage solution figured out, I will keep them there, but I doubt I will glue them - too much chance for breakage I think. Assembling only takes a second, so not worth the chance to me.

What's weather looking like for you over the next few days? It looks like central Illinois is going to get hit again.

Just snow for the next few days (4-6 inches). The Temp will dip on Saturday night, but nice enough on Saturday AM for me to go out ice fishing.

If your AI do not fit snugly, instead of gluing them together, you can put a piece of packing tape (the thin clear kind) on the bottom of the base and the "arm" will stick to it once inserted. Between the base and the tape, it holds pretty well. You can even break them down several time with out having to replace the tape. I've found it's hard to get a contestant press fit on the wood products as each piece of wood burns a different amount when lasered.

For reference, here is how my attitude indicator came out after application of some pencil lead and a some 'colonial maple' wood stain...Name: AttitudeInd.jpg

Scott, that looks great. Quite thematic.

We're expecting snow and possible ice. Good time for gaming.

Thanks! I considered using inks or paint for the detail, but the thin leaded mechanical pencil seemed to do the trick.

What was the brand name of the wood stain? I might do a test run with it this weekend on my wooden range rulers.

I used the ACE Hardware oil-based wood stain. I just got the 1/2 pint of Colonial Maple and then used Krylon acrylic spray clear coat.

I was originally planning on using linseed oil, but your picture has me rethinking this. Out of curiosity, is there a reason you chose Maple? I don't have much experience with wood, so if there was a reason, I would appreciate hearing it.

I was just looking for a stain that wasn't too dark and wasn't too light - I didn't go in with any particular wood type in mind, just a shade that I thought would hopefully match my mental image of how it should look. ACE had about 10 different shades to choose from, so I was hoping I made the right color choice.

And just in case anyone is wondering: The reason I chose the ACE brand - It was the cheapest.

I'm just waiting for the new range ruler to arrive - I really like the updated version and think that it will look great with stain/shading!!!

Sometimes cheap is good. Krylon is actually much better paint than the other stuff on the market. Looks like I'm headed to Ace tomorrow.

    Thanks, Scott.

Andy, tell us about your trip. I think we'll be home since the forecast is for SNOW and ICE. This winter is starting to get long.

Wow...I bought some Colonial Maple from Ace today and it is VERY different. Terra Cotta would be a better name for it. Very ruddy. I bought it at Ace, but the brand was Minwax. Was what you used an actual Ace brand? I didn't notice any, but I grabbed pretty fast too. Maybe I missed it.

I'm glad I grew up with good music, i.e. music recorded before the 80s, on vinyl albums.
