    Default 1/350th is HOW SMALL?!?!?!

Ahoy mates! Keel-hauled back to ask for more assistance. (Ain't I a pain?) I have received my 'Dragon' kit and am about to get started on building a model of my father's destroyer for his 85th birthday. Eric and Sue have been incredibly helpful with decals for my project! What I didn't realize was how very small 1/350th scale is. I have never worked in anything smaller than 1/35th armor and figures. Besides tweezers and a good magnifying glass (and surgery on my nervous system to eradicate shaky hands), what am I going to need? I suspect some sort of hands-free base/holder as well as the above. Can anyone with miniature modeling experience direct me. I have no local game or hobby shop (Iowa....nothing but corn here). I'll need to purchase online. What do I need to "successfully" work in this scale...and where might I find said supplies?

    Much obliged,
    Walt

Get a Donegal Optivisor--it's like wearing a magnifying glass.

By air/armor standards (1/48 to 1/144 A/C builder here), 1/350 is tiny, but for ships it's HUGE. You might also poke around Cybermodeler, Hyperscale and other modeling sites and look for kit reviews... "always look for opportunities to learn from others' experiences with the same kit" is always good advice.

I'll echo everything DB has said and suggest you might also check out YouTube videos on various 1/350 builds. Here are a few links to get you started.
