    Default Frogs in New Zealand

I just went on a cruise from NZ to Sydney and we went ashore in a place called Akaroa NZ. I never realised that the French had history there too. Being from Adelaide, I know about the American whalers on Kangaroo Island and the French explorers around here but it was surprising to see them in NZ.

"… the company was awarded 4 acres for every £1 they could prove to have spent on the settlement…"

Imagine such a land deal, today.

According to the BBC website the area of New Zealand is 104,454 square miles, which converts to 66850560 acres. So they could have had the whole country for £16712640. Mind you, in those days, that amount probably exceeded the entire national income for a year.
