    Default NAVCON 2013--FYI

I was just checking out the latest posts on The Miniatures Page and saw this convention announcement. I don't think I'll be attending, but there are some nice photos from previous years and generally good information on naval wargaming.

navcon is an excellent show from what I've heard. One day I'll find a good excuse to be on the other side of the pond and in the neighbourhood when its on :)

I just noticed from looking at these pictures that they're using the interlocking anti-fatigue mats as the base for the naval action. The non skid surface would be great for the ships staying in place.

We use these in our model railroading, but for the floor, not for table top use.

We will be at a WoG scramble that day, but this is something to put on the calendar for next year. It looks like a great gathering.

You will have a place to stay and a ride if you come.

Those mats looked pretty cheap until I spotted the $18.50 shipping charge.

I expect you could pick the same thing up at a local hardware superstore, Lowe's or Home Depot, for a reasonable price?

You're probably right. I did go directly to the manufacturer web site. Amazon wants $30 for it and they're selling it for $11. They have an overstock and they're trying to get rid of of it. It didn't specify shipping.
The manufacturer makes the same thing in blue, but it's too bright of a blue.

I agree Navcon sounds great, thogh possibly a wee bit too far. Do you know of any decent equivalents to this in our neck of the woods?

WalMart.com has a pretty large variety of anti-fatigue mats. Many items that they sell can be ordered "Site to Store" for no shipping charge. They simply put your order on a Wal-Mart truck as it makes a regular delivery run to your local store. You get an e-mail when the item has arrived at your store and you can stop in to pick it up at your leisure.

Actually yes, the Naval Wargames Society holds a naval wargaming weekend at the Explosion Museum of Naval Firepower in Gosport, Hampshire each June. I've organised the last three, and I demonstrated Sails of Glory at the 2013 show. I confidently expect that SGN will have a very prominent place at the 2014 event too.

I will be there this year....I missed the last two years due to the timing of my last deployment. It is a great event, probably the best I have ever been to for naval gaming. This year they official expanded it to Friday night as well.

I was really hoping SoG would be here in time, but alas I can hope for RockCon. As a result I am running two WWII Naval Thunder engagements with one of my gaming friends.

Here is a link to the second scenario I put together.

If you are in the area it is a do not miss event IMO.

I'll be at Nav-Con too. Hope to get in on the Java Sea or Dec. 8, 1941 Naval Thunder battles!
