Impressive, I hadn't realised how wide she was. The safety harness and life jackets on the crew are a sign of the times, not a peg leg, eye patch or bare foot to be seen!

The Lady needed a little bit help to maneuver out of the harbour.

Maybe a restriction/order from the harbour authorities?

    Great pictures by the way.

I think this is voluntary US Navy personel forming the crew?

(...or what are chief petty officer selectees)

when you are as old as she is you'll probably need a bit of help too

My NAVSEA chums reckon their are people sh**ing bricks every time she moves away from the berth. Its good that they can, though. And good that they do.

About 50 Active duty are stationed onboard the Constitution.
every Late August promotion results are posted for Petty Officer First Classes (E-6) advancing to Chief Petty Officer (E-7). This is a very significant promotion and is followed by six weeks of training. Some of the training is on heritage. About 100-150 (of 4,600 advanced) very lucky Selectees get to go and live aboard for a week and get training to help get the ship underwayat the end of the week.
Each Sept 16th all Selectees will be "Pinned" with thier anchors completing thier transition to Chief Petty Officer.

Thank you for the information, Anav.

A great tradition to connect the beginning of the US navy to the actual service.
