I never owned the RPG but did have the "Soldiers' Companion" miniature rules. I never played a game using the rules but found the rule book packed with ideas for modeling and information on the armies of the world during the period.

I've always wanted to play a John Carter game with Martians and flying ships

That would be cool. I had fun having battles in the Martian skies. My poor cites kept getting shot down
