Did anyone playtested Sails of Glory at the Origins game fair in Ohio?

I would be glad about any AAR and pictures.

No time to post any thoughts up right now, but there are photos in my album to look at.

And here are two teasers from it.

Thanks for the photos!! It certainly is increasing my excitement about getting into the game. The minis themselves are looking better and better. I think they'll take additional detailing really well?

You can see from the pictures that The Royal Hajj painted some of the bases blue. They really did blend in well with the game mat, and were hardly noticeable during play time. The ship cards did a pretty decent job of capturing the pertinent ship info. I think folks will find the record-keeping part of the game quite easy after a few plays.

I like the painted base it is more aesthetically pleasing and takes away from the bulkiness of it'. Were the maps used (which look very good) the ones Ares are going to produce or something else?

The map was a special one-off done for the convention. The Ares maps will have a light grid placed on top that will help with the wind direction. They, too, will be like the WoG maps in terms of material - akin to a mousepad.

I hope the mats will be available for poor mortals that did not jump in the KS train/Ship !

They will be, just like WoG mats. Having played WoG and SoG at the convention, I will definitely have 4 mats; I normally play with 2 on the dining room table, but I liked having a larger playing surface. It enables a bit of movement and interesting scenario setups. The game can easily be played with 2 mats, though, and that is how I will mostly play at home when playing with just my wife or a friend. Having the flexibility will be nice.

Excellent news ! Four mats will probably be my playing configuration, too. As you said, it gives you flexibility. :g&t:

I have just one WGA mat, the coastal one, but am waiting delivery of my other mats (2 x Countryside mats & 1 x City mat), for a four mats configuration to play Wings of Glory.

Last night, we played a WoG game on two mats. I was surprised at how quickly we closed on each other. Having played with four mats, the two-mat configuration now seemed quite small. I plan on staying away from 6-mat configurations for awhile. I want to enjoy what I presently have.

I like the mats saying Sails of Glory the. napoleonic Wars, it bodes well for other periods and more ships in the years to come...with a bit of luck.

Oh and I am supremely jealous of all those who have already played. I doubt a ship will land here before the end of August maybe even into September.

Yes, four mats is a nice size to play one. The mat pictured above was made for me by Luis of Game On mats. He did an excellent job (as always) in a very short time period for us! I can't thank him enough. The really cool islands were provided by Skullduggery. I'll be getting some of these for my personal games as well.

At the convention we played 8 players on a 4x6 foot mat. As you can see from the photo below, there was lots and lots of room. You could easily play 8 players on four of the official mats when they come out, and most likely on three as well.

Also, if any of you guys played in one of the SGN events at Origins, please make sure to request your medal for it.

I enjoyed it. The starter rules are good for beginning sailors, but I am ready to give the advanced rules a try! Come on August!

Looks good! I got three mats in the KS so maybe another one is in order when they are released! Those islands add alot of depth to the mats.

Here are two photos I took of the demo game. Learned a lot about the game just watching. As you can see there was quite an intrest in the game.

Thanks for the photos. Ironically, I can also see Catalyst Game Labs giant standee for Leviathans in the background.

Yeah. I can now see how a larger surface can open up all kinds of scenarios with room for more strategy. I think when the space is confined, it will be primarily trying to get the best position to blast each other out of the water, which, in and of itself, is not a bad game. The larger surface, though, will enable different approaches to a target, or for multiple types of engagements within the same game to occur. I can envision two squadrons on the attack, with one focused on a shore target and one engaging ships away from shore. Without larger lengths and widths, such scenarios would be difficult to manage, I think. I will be ordering a few more as well.

Rhnae and I made a day trip to Origins on Friday. The Ares booth was one of my favorites although it was kind of small. The ships looked great and beg for weathering and rigging. Are you going to repeat the show at Gen-Con? Rhnae wants to make a day trip there as well.

I am really looking forward to this game. I already have a game on our club schedule for this fall. I have not played a sailing ship game for over a year. SO I am starving!!

Was a great time meeting folk that have seen here and in the Aerodrome. Game looks like fun and I can't wait until I get my goodies as a Kickstarter person.
