Home Made Smoke Markers

Someone was asking what home made smoke markers looked like. I just snapped one of mine along with a Langton French 74 just so you can see how mine turned out. They are made from this artifical cotton wool type stuff that is used for packing (mine came from a Langton 1/200 WW1 sub model, but I've just received a whole pile in an order from Shapeways which I reckon could make 50-60 markers at least). Some of my chums have similar markers made from regular cotton wool as well.

I think it looks great, especially next to the ship. This would greatly enhance AARs. I imagine a line battle would look pretty cool.

Awesome! I hadn't yet thought of putting it on a base but was planning on just laying it up next to the ship. I think this looks better and you can have some for different sized ships where appropriate. Thanks for sharing.

Nice work on the ship as well. Reminds me that all the pictures of the SoG ships so far have had their courses set, rather than brailed up in battle sail setting.

I think a yarn stike indicator, if you're a fly fisherman, would work really well. and it wouldn't require any work. I'm all about the ease, too many hobbies and so little time. You'd just slip it over one of the masts carefully.

Scratch that. This is a firing indicator not damage, yes? I'm new to the age of sail hobby, so I ask you to bear with me and my ignorance. My idea would be for smoking/damage to a vessel.

Here's an example. You could thin it a bit if it's too bushy. Also, you could get some yarn, tie a loop, fray the ends and thin it to your liking.
