Bottle Chess
I as looking at Bligh's favourite tipple picture of the Capstan bottle and had a fleeting thought that you could make chess pieces out of those. I wonder if anyone has ever done that - chess using beer bottles. A different home made label for each type of piece.

I suspect that this one using mini liquor bottles is more like what you had in mind.

If you use real beer bottles, you will need a very big board.

We used to play this game at College in the late 60's. It was called Chess handicap.
If you took a piece you had to drink it, hence the handicap. it gradually reduced the good players to the level of the rest. By the end of the knockout round, you got some very unusual games in the later stages of the tournament.

Talking of chess.
Here is a set that might enhance any 18th century captain's cabin.

A lovely chess set, Rob. Is it Pirates versus French Navy?

A far as I can tell Dave you are spot on. It only said Pirates vs Navy on the advert, but by the cut of their jibs they are French.
