Ship Log edges fraying
I’ve noticed that some of the laminations tend to separate after they have been used a few times and was wondering what I could do to prevent this. My wife uses a product called Mod Podge in her crafting so I thought I would try it. It comes in matt and gloss finish. I first tried the matt one, it makes the cardboard much more ‘solid’ but I think the gloss finish looks better. It takes several days to fully harden. The bottle says 20 minutes or so to dry but even a day later it still felt slightly tacky. However after a couple of days it was fine. The fit of the pieces is a little tighter but I havent had a problem fitting them together.

Looks like we can obtain this glue here in the uk too.
For myself I have photocopied all my ship mats, including my custom makes, laminated and cut to size. Now they dont fray and have the added bonus of being able to use water soluble or dry wipe markers for damage.

As we discovered at Doncaster Chris.
They worked wonderfully.

We used chinagraph pencils for marking map cases when I was in the army, they might work for you too and they come in different colours.

I use whiteboard markers myself. They clean very nicely with Babywipes.

Yup, grease pens or chinagraphs would work just as well on the laminated mats
