Technology and Empire: Comparing Dutch and British Maritime Technologies

A deep academic study which spends a considerable amount of time on the condition of the two wrecks today, and the effects of deterioration over the time they have been submerged. Nevertheless, the comparison between the construction and materials used are of passing interest even for a mere wargamer like myself. Also the information on where the timber supplies were obtained and how transported, for the Dutch in particular, indicates why our blockade of the Continent was so effective in hindering the building of ships during the Napoleonic Wars.
