I am drawn towards the faster frigates, as well as the smaller actions. This is especially true of the American frigates. I look forward to putting the Constitution on the table.
Well, I've played or ran many a games now and I honestly can't decide! I like the speed of the frigates, but some of them have no real staying power once the iron starts to fly. Plus, the SoLs look so dang good on the table!
For the Starter Box, most likely it will be a French SOL. . .go big, or go home. :happy:
Still hoping we see some Spanish ships within the next year as well?
As I will probably start with the solo scenario (unless I can persuade my wife, which is highly unlikely), I will end up commanding two SoLs in my first game and this, if I remember correctyl (I know I can change) would be the french.
That's like putting a Sam Adams Boston Lager and a Sam Adams Octoberfest in front of me and saying, pick one. So hard to choose.
But I'd have to start my journey into SGN with the firepower and elan of the British SOL.
Whichever is the leftmost model in the box

We did a frigate duel; I had the French one. We circled around at long range; he got some better draws out of the damage bag at first... and then I dialed up head-to-wind suddenly while he was going for my stern, held my fire for a turn, backed downwind, and caught him with a bow rake that got him to strike.
Mine was also a Frigate, and even after about a year of play now, they are still my favourite ships.

I, too, like the frigates. I am looking forward to playing the Constitution.
I must say, though, having seen what SoLs can do, they are quite impressive.
My first command was HMS Bellerophon.
I've always thought the 74 to be big enough to have that majestic feel. In SGN (and several other age of sail games) they are still maneuverable enough to be fun to sail. Frigates have a romantic "alone in the world", "hero captain" feel to them but I love the battle lines of ships of the line.
Courageuse was my first command, and a fine battle she put up. :salute:
