For the big battles there are scripts to follow, and rules of engagement are very strict, and rapidly becoming more stringent as Health and safety becomes more restrictive. We have rules for Pike, shot, cannon, horse, Officers use of polearms, Baggage train, and even civilian participants, plus the camping and living history elements. It takes a lot of organisation when you are dealing with up to 4 or 5000 people in two different armies, with camping units, tentage, powder stores, sanitation, feeding units, and traders, moving on and off site over a single weekend. We have an advance team who go in and set up all the facilities, mark out the site and ensure water and waste provision several days before the event, and then clear up after the participants and spectators have left.
