Story of my Avatar
The picture I chose is the only known painting of the Vivid - a 65 foot ketch with a crew of 3 that was lost at sea off the coast of South Australia in 1932.
My Great Grandfather was the ship's captain.

To this day to my knowledge it has not been found.

That looks a good painting, Alan. Did your Great Grandfather survive the wreck or is this a source of sadness for you?

Unfortunately all 3 crew perished.
It had a cargo of wheat bound from Tumby Bay to Port Lincoln.
A storm came up late in the afternoon and it is believed that the vessel foundered.
Two and a half years later a lifebuoy was found on a nearby island.

What a sad story Alan.
Thanks for sharing this personal bit of history with us.
It is not often one can get a real life link to a historical event like this.
