Here's a link to versions I made a couple of years ago:

If you're interested, I can upload the latest ones.
I would love to add the updated ship logs to your earlier ones Dobbs.
Rob.
Thanks Dobbs.
This next 9 weeks may be a good chance for me to give them another looking over.

I found some errors in the red arc table last evening, and corrected them.
Thanks Dobbs.
I have saved them to file.

Further improvements to the AI tacking. Getting an imaginary player with no senses to sail a boat well is not an easy task!
The only real change this time is on the Second Turn Red Arc Chart.

And also duly saved sir.

I seemed to have missed the essence of this post, especially Pauls comments on the system. I used it yesterday and was totally baffled at first by relative bearings but once the light dawned it worked perfectly well.
I will try and post a play by play account and explain my confusion and resolution and maybe you could confirm if I ended up on the right track. It was a short game so not a lot of opportunities to see how it reacted but it seemed to work as well.
Thanks for sharing your work.
I am very impresed for the game play results .
I like the templates you created, i want to use them.
Thank you
Thanks for the rep, John. Let me know if I can answer any questions. I look forward to your account.
Hi Dobbs the Rep is well deserved, you've put a lot of thought into this, as with a lot of your other ideas.
I posted my game in the AAR section, I've been hopefully quite explicit in the moves and use of the tables and would appreciate you having a look at it to make sure I got the detail correct as I shall be using them again. I think the key thing I was unsure of is the 2nd part of determining the movement card. I'm pretty sure I got the 4th part right - relative heading but when I went through and looked at alternative results I wonder if it could be different.
Anyway thanks again for your efforts.
Cheers
To answer your first question, John:
You are right that step two is the angle that the wind is hitting the AI ship. The yellow/orange arc behind the ships is considered part of the green arc for purposes of card selection.
I forgot that the original base card arcs are red, orange, and green. I've redone all of my base cards and my printer doesn't do orange well.
Thanks for trying my system. I'll lay out my ships and see if I get the same results movement-wise, and give you any further feedback.
Note: Look to entry #60 for the most recent version of my rules.
Here's the very latest rules with the clarifications suggested by John:

Thank you for all the work you have put in on this project so far, Dobbs.:salute:
Excellent work! Could I suggest a few examples in the PDF to illustrate the method of play?
The Latest Version of the Rules:

In this round, I have incorporated a number of new suggestions, as well as making a small change to the Yellow Arc tables.
I suggest printing out pages 1 through 5. The remaining pages are just an example of play, as suggested by David Manley, and can just be left on your computer for viewing.
The Bearing Template:

If anyone gives these rules a try, feel free to post pictures of the engagement. We all love to see plastic ships slugging it out with each other. Also, any input on your experience will help me continue to make improvements.
There you go, Paul. I think I have it now.
I was kind of concerned that my AI's agressive tendencies might frustrate folks. Hopefully, that will not be the case and only encourage us to rise to the challenge. I have been surprised by some of the tactics that have come up, like when the AI luffed up and forced me to sail into its broadside (shown here: https://www.sailsofglory.org/showthr...play-Mechanism).
Got it.
My ship had a similar encounter with the AI ship - sailed straight into a first shot, raking broadside that blew my ship out of the water. It was my first try with a lot of the optional rules. The AI was not frustrating at all. It just shows that I have something to learn. I'll try to post the AAR tomorrow.
Look forward to seeing these AARs gentlemen, and once again thank you Dobbs for your valuable time and effort in refining your rules even more.
Rob.
Glorious, Paul! Simply Glorious!
Suzanne and I loved, "...She was a pig alright, but she was his pig."
An excellent yarn Paul. I look forward to further exploits of your Captain.
Rob.
Thanks for posting this excellent play through Dobbs!
I'm assuming you plan a turn in advance with these rules as well?
Thanks for the rep, Bryan!
The player ship plans a turn in advance.
The Soloplay ship's movement is based on the the location of the player's ship before movement on the current turn.
As an aside, we play that sloops of war don't plan ahead. This makes them far more agile than their lumbering bigger sisters.
Makes good sense Dobbs.
I applied that rule about sloops when I got it from you earlier. I will also use it with my G deck Xebecs unless they are shifting sails or are running with the sail pressed against the mast.
Rob.
